Unhappy VRSF Cat downpipe-failed emissions Colorado

Hi all,

First time poster here. I have a 2013 1er and it came with the VRSF no cat downpipe, I live in Colorado so had to purchase the high flow catted VRSF downpipe because I thought it would pass emissions but unfortunately failed (not by a ton, but by enough). Do you guys have any suggestions outside of buying an OEM downpipe (which are very expensive).

Thanks!

I'm assuming sniffer test and not readiness test? Try to see if anyone local with an N54 has the stock mid pipes. The N54 came with secondary cats, might be enough to pass a sniffer test.

Thanks for the replies, yes just failed the sniffer, everything else was good. I have been on the lookout for n54 midpipes actually as well, so will keep looking there.

As for a universal secondary cat, I have a Berk catback exhaust so was trying to avoid chopping it up, but maybe that is the best solution. that being said even if I could install something quickly to pass then remove would be ideal.

Thanks for the post. I'm also in CO, and have been looking at similar options.

Cut out a section and use clamps to install the cat(s), then just unclamp and clamp back in the piece of pipe you cut out.

Those high flow catted downpipes aren't made to pass emissions only to cut down on a little smell. Could of stuck with the catless and got the same results.

I'm rocking VRSF Downpipes, but I still have my secondary Cats as well as a muffler with the Berk Street exhaust. Next year I'll have to get emissions testing here in CO also.

Just read this from Air Care: "Air Care Colorado is using tighter emissions standards for its I/M 240 dynamometer (treadmill) test, starting in January 2022." FML

Hopefully this doesn't get me in trouble. A tip for the Colorado crowd, if you explain at emissions your car has low ground clearance, they will only do an OBD2 test.....
