I wonder how BMW determined which cars could fail and should not fail? Sounds like the HPFP recall.

Might be linked to just one factory that these bolts are from?

Dear BMW AG,

Why are the 08-09 cars not included? Cost cut part for 2010+ production?

From the mainstream media's regurgitation of the BMW AG press release seems pretty clear it's an I-6 issue.

Mine broke about month ago...
I have 2011 135i 6MT(build date 02/11) here is my experience.
I stated the car and rpm jumped to 1500 for a sec and dropped to 500 and was struggling to keep the engine alive. There was a STRONG fuel smell but it didn't throw any codes. I was faaaaar away from my dealer, this was during my vacation time, so I just turned off the engine and restarted it immediately. There was no crazy stuff going on this time but there was some kind of rattle noise. I did feel little bit of power loss but wasn't major. Took it to the dealer when I got back and yes, it was the vanos. The bolts were broken and been cycling. Dealer have replaced and retrieved the bolts and car runs as it should.
Im just wondering why it didn't throw any codes at me

I checked my VIN too and still nothing. I also checked my brother's VIN and still nothing but his car is an N54 car. I'm not sure if N54's are affected with this recall.

(My car was built Nov 2012)

Was at the dealer yesterday picking up my car from scheduled maintenance and I asked about this. My SA had heard of it, but nothing had officially been told to them yet.

I believe this recall is for the N55 motor only, its a VANOS bolts issue.

Z4's are on the list and they all have N54 engine since they never went to the N55...

It's impossible to say at this point.

128s were listed as part of the "recall" in the initial press release. Later information was that some cars would be recalled, others given an extended warranty

Until it's official, all is speculation.

So a month and a half later, NONE of us have heard anything from BMW? My SA still hasn't seen anything on his side.

I checked the NHTSA website about this recall and they say they "Expect" BMW to issue recalls letters to owners in May.....Obviously that deadline wasn't met. There hasn't been an updated timeline yet.
