If you had 1,000 Dollars to spend on your n55 135i....
What kind of mods would you buy to expand overall performance/efficiency?
Any recommended mods?

Not much you can do with so little. Assuming you're starting at the beginning, its either tune or exhaust....

Tune, intake, axleback. Probably get the axleback and intake used for pretty cheap on here.

Agree with this
When I switched from run flats to Michelin PSS it was a huge upgrade performance wise. These cars have enough trouble getting traction from the factory.

OP is looking for performance. None of those will really increase performance on an otherwise stock car. Though intake and cdv are cheap enough that they are probably worth trying to fit in - assuming OP likes the noise the dci will expose, otherwise forget dci.
OP, I'd go with a tune first. For sure. Depending on which way you go, see what you have left over and throw it into a down pipe if you can. If you are on the stock run flats, tires are strong candidate too depending on how easily you can break traction now. I am at the point where traction is a huge issue even with what are considered pretty good tires. And honestly it is not that fun. Need to improve things for next spring. |

I'd go in my exact order all over again.. BMS Downpipe, JB4, BMS Intake. Add a Y-pipe resonator delete in there and everything is perfect. I wouldn't touch the stock axleback.

i spent 1K on a tune and tires and i'm very happy with the car as a DD
I also added a clutch stop, because the clutch throw was way to long for my liking |

While performance is in the name, you can hardly call an exhaust a performance upgrade on these cars. Which is what OP is looking for. Though he does also say efficiency (whatever that may mean), so maybe a freer flowing exhaust with help the fuel economy a bit. I dunno.

you are right. i'm not someone who actually wants more power.....i think stock is enough.........but the PE sounds so wonderful...it may not add power, but it adds a huge amount of enjoyment! |

I also installed a set of Michelin PSSs and absolutely love them. The 135is was built with a factory tune and PE, so tires were the first choice on my list.

PPK, CDV delete and clutch stop.
Or . . . a two-day drivers school with hotel, prep, etc. Just finished one and the stock 1er needs very little to get around the track fast except a good driver. |
