I also love the old CSL. The lower front end looks a little baren, it might be cool to add something down there too? Thanks for sharing. |

Nah, fake carbon wrap stuff is for posers IMHO. If you have carbon for weight reduction = NOT POSER. Fake carbon decals and wraps = POSER!
PROOF: This is the real thing: You see any fake mirror wraps?? Electric Folding Mirrors? If you look closely you might see the guys gigantic dangling bits hanging under the car...and he probably doesn't have fake carbon wrap boxers either. Now with that said, no flaming, just an opinion... I got nothing against posers....some of my best friends have fake carbon stuff on their cars! : ) The stripes here are an Homage to the glory days of BMW racing that's why some guys that know the history think the stripes are cool...we get it. Amen! I've always wondered about that - CF is for weight reduction. So, you wrap something in fake CF, and now you've actually ADDED WEIGHT. Not much, I grant you, but still - it's the principle.

Love it! I'm not a huge fan of graphics and stickers on a car, but this pays homage to the past in a tasteful way. I don't know what it is about that white/red/blue color combo, but it's simply magic.

I think it looks pretty bad on the 1M and the original car. But it's acceptable on a race car especially with all the sponsor decals filling the spaces.

Really, Enzo was not even a fan of his own street cars, he only cared about racing and performance. The street cars just paid for the racing. Yes, that trim piece in the Ferrari is...as the French would say "Haute Poseur" Translated High (end) Poser! : ) Anyway, just keeping friendly banter here...as I said, some of my best friends are posers too. Now back to the topic at hand, the gentleman here is paying respect to the glory days of BMWs and to making something individual. I applaud that, it's pretty gutsy to slap decals on your $50,000 EURO car. |

.....what do you driver around on the street in your registered Ariel Atom? Some things can be incorporated into the cars design that serve a different purpose other than performance. Enzo himself was guilty of putting form before function as well. I'm sure you could leave the door liners off, have the AC ducting exposed, hell you shouldn't even have AC, or use some cheap lightweight plastics as interior covers and you would be 'hardcore' but just because someone appreciates some luxury or design elements into their cars, doesn't make them a poser, JMO.

Anyway, you have some valid points and it's really not a big deal. The purpose of stripes are to make the car more visible and stand out from other cars. That is ALL they represent. Carbon fiber represents lightweight performance oriented so you add this on top of plastic mirrors adding more weight and slightly even increasing wind resistance. So you added weight, possibly affected aero dynamics. So what fake cover do is OPPOSITE of what the they represent. Hence Poser. Semantics aside, you are right, everyone should do whatever makes them happy, I just would feel embarrased sort of a fraud with fake carbon bits. Even before buying my 1M, I was considering the M3 and asked if I could have the carbon roof painted without adding the sunroof. I think the black carbon roof on a white car looks lame and is hot so I wanted it white to match because what mattered to me was the performance and lightweigh aspect. Didn't care if anyone knew it was carbon under the paint. Just differences which is what makes life interesting. |

HAHAHAHA what are you guys talking about. I meant the genuine BMW accessories, not vinyl wrap. I think the car looks very plain even with the stripes and the black accents would set it off. Pretty sure putting CSL stripes on a stock 1M street car is HAUTE POSEUR too.

I think only an F1 team would be concerned with the negligible weight that would add. A good morning shit will cancel that out. And increased wind resistance? I really don't think so. I applaud someone who considers function over form but I think the Vinyl has the same effect, with no benefits besides looks. We are talking about the same type of upgrade, but you have a problem with it because carbon weave is supposed to signify a lighter part only?
