Does your heater cook your feet?

Has anybody figured out the heater? I love my 128, but the dash vents blow cold at any temps below 83. Once I get nice and warm and need to turn it down, all the heat is coming onto my feet and cold air is freezing my upper parts. Of course the vents turn off, but my feet still cook. Maybe it's just 'cause I'm a skinny guy, but my feet don't like it! My service advisor at BMW said this can't be changed, but I'm suspecting that this can be reprogramed by a savvy aftermarket mechanic. Has anybody checked into this?

This is just the way the car was made to operate. Warm air causes you to fall asleep so that's why the vents blow cold air. Have you tired just having the air blow to your feet and the windshield? That's what I do and I can set the temp accordingly......without getting too warm.

Don't know if this can be programmed out and haven't ever looked since the method above works completely fine.

I get heated air at all vents (defrost, dash, feet) if set to AUTO.

Yup, mine has always done the exact same thing. Setting it to heat and defrost at least spreads the heat around a little.

If you set the temp to 84, then turn it down below 84, the car will blow colder air to get the cabin temp down to whatever you set it at. Then it will resume blowing warmer air. This is how the car is. My feet don't get overly hot like you're saying . . .

This is exactly why the last three German cars I've owned have seat heaters...they really do make up for the fact that these cars do this. My two previous Audi's were JUST like this BMW's HVAC system.

I also set mine at 70 and in auto. It doesn't heat my feet up too much and I've never noticed cool air out the vents (when heating).

Hmm, Thanks Guys. Yes, I've tried all that. Except JimD and Mr Fabulous... You guys get warm air from the dash always? Can you tell me how you did that? The vents actually don't resume warm air, they just blow cold "to keep the driver awake" as the manual sez. Yeah, I'm awake alright. There is a mode that keeps the dash vents warm when the top is down. I think I'll look for that "top down" switch and see if I can fool it into thinking my top is always down.

Not set to AUTO (where I control everything), cold air blows from my dash vents unless the temp is maxed at 84F.

Set to AUTO, I get heat everywhere (defrost, dash, feet) as needed. When the temp stabilizes, air cools everywhere (and it might be cooler from the dash than it is from defrost and feet, I'm really not sure and it's difficult to test/verify where I live). But I know to expect heat everywhere if the interior of the car is cooler than set.

Hmm. I select high, vent or low manually. I am able to get very hot air from the dash vents.

I don't have this issue. I set mine on auto, temp at 17.5*C and leave it be. The only time i turn it up is the defroster. Maybe my feet aren't as sensitive.... IDK.
