$719 for an intake boot?!?
2012 135. Does $719 (dealership) sound right? Even the independent shop I called said the part alone would run almost $400. Seems excessive for a hose.
Thanks ahead of time for your advice.... |

These cars don't have an intake boot...the charge pipe plugs directly into the throttle body. Do you have a part number for the piece you are talking about?

Intake boot PT# 13.71.7.615.026 $345.40 Labor 2.0 hours (including diagnosis) $327.60 Tax $28.50 Shop supplies $18.00 Total $719.50 This part is not covered by BMW extended warranty either. It is a boot, which is considered a wear and tear item. Most warranties only cover mechanical or electrical parts that have failed. (As opposed to just wearing out over time like a boot) |

There is something very wrong here if this part failed in only 4 years. Has a previous owner been in there doing and undoing mods? Your in a big city-there must be a number of very good indies there. BMWCCA membership gives you access to a huge amount of free technical advice. BTW, Bav Auto charges $329.95 for this (free shipping and no tax in New Hampshire). You have Autohausaz and they are good too.

A charge pipe failing is a fairly common occurrence. N54 ones are more prone to failure, but if you are replacing it, you might as well get an aftermarket upgraded one. I'd go with a metal one to be honest. You can even find a do-it-yourself guide online here. It's not a difficult swap at all.

Just pay dealer the $165 and find someone local selling a stock charge pipe. Or, order an aftermarket one to not worry about failure anymore. It only takes about twenty minutes to install a new charge pipe on the N55. I'm in Dallas also and would be happy to help you.

Mine popped at 20k miles, this is a known flaw. It is ridiculous that extended warranty won't cover it. If you are hard on your throttle at all I would not replace with stock unless you want to do this every so often. Just because the first one lasted four years doesn't mean the next one will. The one that blew wasn't worn down, it was weak to begin with and finally gave.

How common is this?? Does it set off a warning light to let you know it needs replacing? It's absurd that warranty won't cover it, I wonder if a 3rd party warranty would cover it? Seems like BMW's CPO covers less and less each year.

Maintenance warranty yes, I guess those profits aren't as big as they used to be.

No real codes... unless your cp is cracked only slightly... then you might get a 30FF boost code - bc your engine can't produce the boost pressures your DME is asking for. Most common sign is oil/dirt on the intake hoses/plumbing.
