Bridgestone RFTs on the 135i

Wow - the Tirerack reviews of this runflat model are 90% negative! Admittedly there aren't many reviews online so we may just be seeing comments from the disgruntled few, but it is not looking pretty.

The tires are not good that is why the reviews are poor. Maybe BMW will offer a different tire package with an upgraded wheel or something...

If RFT's are the only option, I'll be picking up a new set of wheels/tires and have them waiting for the new car, probably CSL's on 615's...

Not a bad idea although I would hate having to change out wheels and tires after picking up a 35k + car.

My logic is this...

If I can pull the OEM wheels and tires, use what ever it is that I want to use, when it comes time to get rid of it, I can be CPO because of the RFT's...

Getting a set of Falken's and CSL Reps is probably about the price of 4 RFTS!

Good point, although the price of RFT's has been coming down quite a bit, but it is still pricey.

My goal with aftermarket wheels is usually not to exceed weight in lbs=diameter+1.

That explains why the 14 lb 17" SSR Comps are so nice on the MINI

So replacements for the 135 OE wheel should be no more than 19 lb for an 18" wheel. Got any recommendations?

Nothing specific, but I bet those 135's weigh more like 26 lbs (or more) each. BMW makes them beefy so they are more stout on potholes, and are able to have those PITA to mount runflats not damage the seats on the wheels.

$299 for 18x9, 17.7lbs, 43 offset, all silver or black w/polished rim. Also avail in 18x10!

Those are currently my racing wheels. I have the 16.2lb gunmetal 17x9's on my 332ti. I'd like them more if they didn't need dremeling on teh back to use a spacer and the requirement of those blasted additional hubcentric rings.

They are incredibly light though, especially for the price.

You can get them from Turnermotorsport, Vorschlag, or Diffsonline. I got mine from Diffsonline, since they were the closest and cheapest. BTW, they are called DForce LTW5.

In general it would be a forged manufacturing process wheel instead of cast. TireRack has a good explanation.

Yes, and the threshold factor would be beyond my knowledge to discuss.

Those wheels are strong, but might not be as durable as the heavier stock wheels. D-Force calls them spun forged since the aluminum is simultaneously spun, heated, and pressed, but the spokes are cast aluminum.

I've used them on both my e90 and my 'ti without any problems and hit some substantial potholes with no ill effect.

I would say that forged would be somewhat stronger, but 2-5 times more expensive too. These wheels are stronger than your average lightweight cast alu wheel though.
