My alpine white 1er at 10,800 feet
I did a little hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park this weekend but the day before I did a little driving on the Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in the US. Despite the traffic, its very much worth the trip if you live within 600 miles.

Very nice, I took my 06 330i on the same road, drove from the West to East enterance of Rocky Mt. National Park. Lots of great hiking. BTW, I belive the highest paved road in the country is Mt. Evans scenic byway in Colorado. "The Mount Evans Scenic Byway climbs more than 7,000 feet in just 28 miles, reaching an altitude of 14,264 feet. The upper section of this road is the highest paved highway in North America."

Pretty good, suprisingly. I was able to power slide around a hairpin turn in 2nd gear at 11,400 feet, no problem. It takes quite a while longer to build boost though. You can pretty much forget about 5th and 6th gear above 8000 feet and the usable power band shrinks to 4000-6000rpm.

Isn't mount evans road higher ?
Went there once and it's pretty amazing. Glad your 1 survived at that altitude ! How did you like the brakes going down ? |

Didn't really use the breaks. Just put it in 3rd gear and let the friction of going around corners keep my speed legal, along with a brief stab on entry.

Nice, its a great drive, great pic. Even better if you can avoid the huge trucks and the ones pulling campers (which oddly always seem to be from Texas). I haven't taken the 1er over it myself yet, but there are a nice number of switchback turns to play around the twisties a bit.
Like Desmat mentioned, Mt Evans is the highest paved road in North America. |

Nice shot. I live within 60 miles but haven't got the 1er up there yet. Going to have to change that.
