Engine swap thread or sub-forum?

Is there a 1 series thread or sub-forum discussing past or current engine swaps? I know there's a 1 with the E9# M3 V8 and I'd certainly consider doing a swap if my N55 expires. Maybe the 4.8 from a 750i? Not an LS swap tho.

I don't think I've seen a specific thread to memorialize all swaps that have been done to date but here is the one for the S65 V8 one I think you're referring to: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793184

There's also a one with a V10 out there (in Russia I think), but I haven't seen a build thread for that.

Thanks, I have seen the s65 build, was just looking for something with less initial cost. I love the sound of a modern V8.

doesn't the 4.8 only make 360hp? That's a ton of work/expense to make what our cars do with a tune and downpipe.

Power delivery is a large portion of the reason why to do it. More low down torque, no turbo lag, glorious sound of V8.

There is basically no reason to swap out a N55 unless it's for shits and giggles (great reason for a swap) or you have extreme plans like electric drivetrain, helicopter engine, top fuel, etc. The 4.8 is a definite downgrade for the effort involved.

More low end torque? Right. Tune your turbo six to spool properly.

Someone had a few YouTube videos about turbo LS swapping their E90. Someone is LS swapping a 1'er right now, but I only saw that on the E9x E8x owners' Facebook group.

If it's going to be somewhere, it's going to be in the Performance Driving sub-forum.

Really though, the engines available to the 1'er platform are so well-suited to the car, you'd have to be somewhat silly to swap something other than an S65 or even an S85 into.

Don't get me wrong. The S65 is amazingly suited for the lighter 1er, and I'd love to have one, but... Torque isn't the appeal.

Stock S65 makes less torque than a stock N55 lol

I cringe at that F:R balance though! Nice thing about the LS swaps is that the engine is shorter, sits more mid-chassis, is lighter by ~200lbs if I recall, and when mounted correctly, sits lower in the bay also lowering COG. Then tune for 500whp. Done. Easy right? Heh.

Exactly, and you bolt on a supercharger and I've read you're in the 500 hp range.

The S65 is like an aborted S85. The S85 was a good engine. The S65 sucks and shouldn't be in anything.

It's already well known. If the M3 owners like the motors, that is for the best, but don't drop them in our cars! A reflash and downpipe N55, even on stock turbo, beats a S65 hands down. Including reliability.

What does beats mean? Some people like engines that build revs fast and high and don't fall flat on their face before redline. Independent throttle bodies are a thing. Stock for stock an N54/N55 makes more torque than my S54 but I'd never trade it for one of them EVER.

No disrespect meant whatsoever just curious have you driven either S54/S65 for extended periods of time and still feel this way? Esp. mated to a manual.

Fully dressed LS1 only weighs 40lbs less than the S85 actually. Sure it has more potential but V10 BABY

There's also the S63 all wheel drive conversion...

Search on the the googles for S63 All wheel drive 135i. It's on a site called bimmer-(what the turbo does) but it's blocked here.
