Power Steering Fluid
Hey, guys. I'm about to change my power steering fluid, and wondering if I chose the right one? Fluid's never been changed and I'm at 96k miles.
I got Red Line 30404 fluid, but now I can't find anywhere except ECS Tuning that says it's correct? Is there any difference? |

Pentosin CHF 11S is what I use to top mine up with. You'll need to change the filter also at that mileage (which, IIRC, means changing out the fluid reservoir).

I may be wrong on this, but, some systems use another type of fluid. Check on the reservoir cap and hopefully the label that tells which fluid is still on the cap.

The label on the reservoir cap will tell you what to use. Do not use anything else, this stuff is not interchangeable. Will probably be Pentosin as noted above. The reservoir has a fixed filter inside so change the whole thing, it's not that expensive. Do not believe any of BMW's lifetime fill nonsense on any of your car's fluids. Do yourself a favor and download Mike Miller's free "Lifetime Maintenance Schedule" if the car's a keeper. I believe the the recommendation is to change the P/S fluid is every 30k. miles.
