Man that is so cheap... any 0w40 here is close to $100/5L
We use Castrol Edge 0w40 for the F8x cars at work

It's what I'm going with because it's $25-26 for 5 quarts (which is real cheap) and the 0W should help a bit more with cold starts. I tend to have some shorter and more aggressive drives, so I like the oil to be thinner when it's cold.

I wonder if the LL-01 spec changed & Mobile 1 doesn't meet the cleaner spec for some reason. Our gas in the US apparently has a high sulphur content. I read that back in 2014 the EPA changed the regs to bring down the sulphur content starting in 2017... hmm?

Rumor has it that Mobil 1 could not meet the LL-01 requirement in the N20 engine after they reformulated. It is called Mobil 1 FS 0w-40 now. Either that they did not want to pay to re-qualify.

They have new versions of oil specs out, LL-04 and LL-14, though most BMW gasoline engines in the US still require the LL-01. LL-14 is a "fuel economy" spec and a 0w-20 grade spec. LL-04 is a low SAPS oil for countries/fuels with ultra low sulfur levels.

Are you saying Mobil 1 0W-40 at Walmart is not the same as Mobil 1 0W-40 at Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc?

That's what I've been told, yes.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that for one minute. The bottles all have the same packaging and approvals (when comparing the FS formulation), I doubt they change what goes in between retailers.

Just saying what I've been told. Pretty sure they have a walmart specific sku/barcode and have a return to walmart tag or something on there as well, so who knows.

Personally I use Liqui Moly anyways, so doesn't matter to me.

From what I looked up, sounds like it's all not true.

Auto parts stores sell stuff for ridiculous markup. They'll have "sales" and still have huge margins. Walmart works on lower margins for some products. Amazon too.

I think the stuff I got is legit and I've never thought that the Mobil 1 I got from Walmart was not the same as I'd get from anywhere else. Packaging is different now (for a long time I think it was the same?). https://community.cartalk.com/t/upda...t-thread/81034

Yeah, it's not like a Sales/Marketing person never told a lie to their customer.

Mobil 1 has one product performance sheet for 0W-40 in the US (and one MSDS I believe). So while I'm sure they have some variation from run-to-run, I doubt they deliberately increase the cost of oil they sell to Walmart.
