2010 BMW 128i professional speaker system?

*cough* anyone else think its horrible?

i recently got a new 2010 128i since my horrible crash, (love being back in a bimmer) anyway, ive noticed there are no tweeters mounted on the door by the window, and the speakers in the door by my knees (which were midranges in the 08-09) are what i'm guessing coaxial? the sound quality is completely horrible.

anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm trying to figure out why I don't hate the standard audio system, because I've heard a lot of people agree with you and dislike it. Either my ears are horrible, or I've never heard a decent system. Perhaps I should be happy with my ignorance!

I assume the audio in my 135 is the same as your 128.

However, I was in Spain last year and I rented a 118 thinking it might compare with my 135 in some way. Although it was a great efficient car, the audio was a total disaster. I'd honestly compare it to my mother's old 1980's era Datsun. My brother-in-law, who is Spanish, said it was not a suprise because the 118 is trying to compete with other economy cars in that country. Shocking nonetheless for me.

I digress.

US spec base audio for 2010 is totally different than 2009.

In 2009, you got 8" underseat, tweeters in the sails, and a 6-channel amp (the BMW "HiFi" system).

In 2010, the base EU audio system became the base US system as well.

- No more tweeters

- No more amp

- 6" under the seats

- Everything powered by the tiny chip amp in the deck - 12 watts per channel when lightning strikes your antenna going downhill with a tailwind...

So upgrading with more power (an amp) and better speakers is required.

Wow, if you ended up with anything similar to what I heard on that 118 in Europe last year then I definitely feel for you.

This happened to a lot of 2010 models. The 2010 X5 - same gig. E90 3-series - same gig.

Can you imagine test-driving a non-Logic-7 2009 and deciding not to upgrade audio for your special-order 2010 X5? I had a customer who went through that exact experience - was HE disappointed!

Likes his upgrade, though.

Yep...but depends on your budget since there are so many options. I would HIGHLY suggest sending a PM to VP Electricity. He has sent out lots of kits to people around. I have Morels dotechs comps with the add-on morel underseats all powered by a Zapco...not a cheap option but sounds kick ass. VP will have lots of suggestions.
