just a thin flathead screwdriver- you angle it so the end is pointed up and you'll feel when you have it on the clip because it will push back at you like a spring, mine was easiest to do by starting with the left side clip

Like the seats it depends on your size. I have smaller hands so the steering feels a bit too thick for me. I don't think i can completely wrap my hand around the wheel with my thumb and index finger, but i have adjusted to it.

I do like the m-shift knob a lot. Few month ago I almost bought the performance shifter because it looks much better but the stock m-knob just feels so right in your hands.

do you think i will be able to sell it for 400 with the M trim plate?
i will use the wheel for two weeks while im in Europe doing my ED
that's exactly what vlkwerk did before he sold it to me, drove it around europe and then installed the performance one when he got home. you may get $400, he wanted 400, I offered $350 for the wheel and shift knob and he accepted, but you could probably get that because new they are $385 and then almost another $100 for the trim plate so probably, depends who is in the market at the time.

Hey gang,

I have a 335i which came with the M-tech steering wheel with paddles. I have changed it with the Performance steering wheel and now I want to put the M-tech one in my girlfriend's E87. The problem is that the steering wheel is supposed to have paddles which were transfered to the Performance one.

Would it work on the E87 without the paddles?

Thanks!

You can buy just the paddles from BMW or ebay.

I finally went ahead purchased the m-tech wheel and shift knob and boot, everything fits perfect, no air bag is needed to go from the 135i orginal wheel to the m-tech wheel. Thanks Add1ct for all the help.

cool, glad I could be of help, it's definitely a very easy and worthwhile DIY as the feel of the new steering wheel is worlds above the old, at least imho

I wimped out, didn't DIY. had the dealer do it. but your right about the feeling of the wheel, it feels a lot better, the shifter feels a little more sportier as well. I definately recommend the upgrade.

in the diy, it said....

"*** Before reconnecting your battery, put your key in the slot and turn your lights to the on position. This way you dont send all of the new electric current to your computer and fry it. I know that its only a small, small probability, but it is a precaution to almost guarantee it wont happen. New computers for your car can cost up to $2500, so please do this step..."

does it mean to put the headlight on position???? does it mean put the fob in the slot before reconnecting the battery??
