Easiest/most efficient Subwoofer setup?

Hey guys, I have been out of the car audio scene for a really long time.. I could use some brushing up and I'm looking for some advice.

I have the following equipment from my previous car (Elemental Designs equipment)

1 x 0Awg Dual Amp Kit (0 gauge dual amp kit)
2 x 10.9 - 14Ft RCA (a pair of 14ft RCA cables)
10 x 12AWG BL Per Ft (10-ish feet of 12 gauge wiring)
25 x 14AWG BL Per Ft (25-ish feet of 14gauge wiring)
1 x NINe.2 (IIRC, this amp was to power my components 400W x 1 @ 4 Ohm, 200W x 2 @ 2 Ohm, 100W x 2 @ 4 Ohm) *note* these are the current NINe.2 Amp stats, my amp was from 2005 so it may vary
1 x NINe.1 (IIRC, this amp was to power my subs 450W x 1 @ 4 Ohm, 900W x 1 @ 2 Ohm, 1200W x 1 @ 1 Ohm) *note* these are the current NINe.1 Amp stats, my amp was from 2005 so it may vary
2 x 13Ov.2 Subwoofer (2 12" subwoofers)
1 x eDi 6500s Components (components.. tweets + midranges with external xovers..)

I know my components won't fit in stock locations for the 135i (this setup used to be in my 2006 RSX-S) since the midranges are 6.5".. really don't know about the tweets.

Anyways, I got rid of my RSX-S about 1 year after I purchased it and this system was only in the car for about 5-6 months brand new and it was removed and kept in boxes in my garage for the last 5 or so years. I also have a pioneer deck but to keep things simple, my question is this: how would you guys go about installing the subs and sub's amp in the 135i? I did my install in the RSX-S but it was done with the help of experienced friends. I don't recall how everything is setup and works especially with the 1er.

What parts would I have to obtain and how would you guys go about setting it up? (retaining stock headunit in the 135i)

I have my subs mounted in a wedge-style box already and should have remote wire also. LMK what other info you guys need on my part while I do some more research on the forums.

Thanks in advanced

edit: i have the base audio system in the U.S. spec 2008 135i. car details are in my sig

probably going to make things much more difficult trying to use older parts from another car unfortunately. I know you are trying to save some $$ since you have all that equipment but i would highly suggest selling it on craigslist and getting a new set up more specific for the 1 series.

You will need new components, 4" in door, tweets 25-28mm. you will need to order a-pillar mounts unless you dont mind the look of creating a pocket in the stock a-pillar for the tweets. 2 subs seem excessive for this car, but my 2 cents. I would scrap it and get new stuff.

go to www.musicarNW.com and they will hook you up with everything you would need.

good luck

I don't want to install everything into the car, I just listed what was available on hand. I only want to put the subs in the car. Yes, it could be overkill to throw those 2 12's in the car, but my previous car was smaller and it was technically a hatchback so it was even more overkill

So yeah, just looking to put the subs in the 135i. Won't be cranking the gain or anything, the car is just desperate for some lows

Hi, i recently had a full sound system installed in me 1'er and i had wires pulled to the trunk of my car where i keep my 4-channel amp for speakers, and my 2 channel amp for my subwoofer underneath where the car battery is. The only problem with the stock head-unit is that you will get a whining sound in your speakers from a magnetic flux created between the leftover power that your car throws away and the magnets in your speaker, and the only way to get rid of it is to get a separate battery and a battery alternator.
Hope this helps

How much did your setup cost you? Didn't your installer admit that the 1er was the worst bmw ever for EMI (engine noise)? I doubt the guy had a "bad" install, he just didnt have his system completely r2'd like you did. I'd love to know how much it cost you to completely remove the whine.

The EMI was transmitted to my crossovers when they where mounted next to the battery in the trunk, once we moved them further away i had NO WHINE. My previous install with shitty connectors and LOCs had horrible whine....OEM integration is a bit more involved.

so to answer you question, it cost me NOTHING, to move my crossovers.

How much did I charge to not have whine? That wasn't a line item.

We fixed some errors - true. We followed some best practices which had not been previously followed. And we happened to use some good gear that we know is good. But if an installer ships a car with a noisy system, it's not the cars fault. 1s are noisy, a bit more than e53 X5s - but that's an opportunity to show our value, isn't it?

I missed this earlier...

This statement is so full of fail, I'm not sure where to start.

OK, we've done multiple 1-series audio systems and not had whine.

Dude, the person that told you that is either:

A) Not qualified to make statements about electricity

B) A liar

C) Both A and B...

OK, I will go so far as to say that a better alternator/rectifier system with more battery storage would make avoiding noise easier - but not required. Otherwise, how on earth could BMW's analog preamp HiFi system avoid noise?

It's NOT the ONLY way, it's NOT required, and whoever told you that was incorrect.

I've also seen where shops have said that a capacitor at the alternator is also 'the only way" to avoid noise. Didn't need one of those either.

So I'm sorry if your shop lied to you - about your car and about where noise comes from.

Sweet. Thanks for the clarification! I was worried about installing my own system, and interpreted your detailed write up as requiring a pro to eliminate the emi. Now that I know that it's no big deal I can save my $ and just do it myself! . I've done my own installs for the past 12 years and your write up made everything seem a bit more involved than I was accustomed to. Appreciate the clarification.

VP, I will male sure to contact you when I gather my parts list.
