Broken Brembo Bleeder Valves

Search shows this has come up a few times, but nothing recent so I figured it can't hurt to put a reminder out there. I bought my 135 a few months ago and am in the midst of replacing the brake pads and rotors on all 4 corners. It's a 2013 with about 70k on it, so I wouldn't call it high mileage or unnaturally rusty.

I was planning to replace my bleeder screws as a precaution due to potential corrosion as part of the job. The backs went smoothly, but when I got to the driver front caliper I found someone had already broken the bleed screw. I figured I'd order a new caliper and possibly attempt to get the broken screw out later so I had minimal downtime. I was relieved to see the passenger side bleeder was still there and loose enough to break free, but it took some caliper threads along with it.

Moving forward I'm going to crack my bleed screws as part of my oil change routine, but thought someone else might be able to benefit from the heads up. If nothing else, be prepared for some potential breakage if you're planning to flush your fluid!

Cracking them loose once in a while is a good idea. Most shops will over-torque them, the next time they will not come off or just shear off.

I had the same issue -- broken bleeder screw shaft on in the rear caliper of my 2008 135i, with the fancy Brembo calipers. I also ended up buying a new caliper after multiple unsuccessful attempts to remove the old bleeder.

I'm pretty happy now, but I figured I would buy some replacement screws so that, at some point down the line I could swap in the new screws. In my estimation, the bleeder screws are soft, "sacrificial" parts that will die so that the calipers don't get damaged.

Trouble is -- I can't find a part number for the rear bleeder screws. The front screws are 34-11-6-780-509 and that's easy to discover. But I can't find any part number for the rear screws. Does anyone know -- are the front and rear Brembo bleeder screws just the same part, for the 2008 e82 135i? Thanks all!

Ugh. Just lost a week from broken rear. Got it out and took the treads with it. Good call on cracking with oil changes. Of course i found out it wouldnt seal after I painted ,stickered and cleared lol

Rock auto to the rescue with cheap replacement rear

I just had the same !@# thing happen with my Honda Civic ... it's a 2016, practically brand new, with less than 50k on the odo. Right-Rear bleeder screw frozen. My right-rear calipers are all cursed, it seems.

I wonder if vehicles in the UK (driving on left side of the road) have trouble on the left-rear caliper?

At least on a Honda the replacement parts are substantially less expensive. After the core a new caliper was only $60. Not as much fun to drive as my 135i but keeping it going is a lot less expensive.

Up here in the frozen North, when changing to winter tires on my winter beater, I put 1 drop ONLY on the bleeder screw threads. BMW is winter stored. Every oil change is too much.
Oops= 1 drop of oil
