COBB Pro-tune
Hey guys,
I recently had my car pro-tuned at Cobb So-Cal. I am running FBO and wanted to dial in my car with a 91 map. What I found odd was the OTS map made more HP than the custom map. The custom map made more torque but I figured I would have had a little bump in horsepower with a custom tune. Mustang Dyno OTS Stage 2+fmic : 356 HP 403 WTQ 91 Custom Map : 351 HP 438 WTQ Thoughts? And I don't want to hear "just switch to MHD". Instagram: hopeless_135i Last edited by Joe_435i; 07-05-2017 at 04:23 PM.. |

What he said ^^^
5 hp is only a 1.5% difference. Dynos aren't that repeatable...

Well, without knowing any specifics, and making the assumptions that you ran the baseline dyno on the same machine, they did the custom tuning, then ran the final numbers on the same dyno when the tuning session was complete, then I'm going to make the following assumptions...
- You were already nearly at the max performance for your local fuel source - They learned as much while tuning and traded more boost for less timing - The ambient temps increased while you were there, between first & last dyno runs - They talked a bunch about adding boost and it'll be more responsive & fun to drive To that I'd add you paid, what, about $250 for a custom tune that's essentially just adding more hot air for minimal performance since you were pretty much maxed out to begin with, but they wanted the sale, not the good customer service from telling you what you needed to know instead of just giving you what you wanted- tempered by not knowing you so there is a possibility that you forced em into it... But, I know nothing, so pay no mind to me. Just a guess.

I don't know anything about Cobb for N54 but their pro tune capability for N55 blows donkey balls.
The tuner may not be that good, or may have misunderstood your intentions, but before we get into that, you don't say what kind of dyno it was on, or what your stock baseline is, so frankly nobody can tell you what those numbers mean!!! But, let's assume it's not an ultra conservative dyno: you should be able to make more up top even on 91 octane. Also, to a small extent, pushing the turbo harder down low gives you a little less headroom on top, particularly for full-spectrum pulls. If things really were maxed out I wouldn't be surprised to see a drop of a few WHP. |

You said pretty much back to back but the sheet shows different days? If it was different days then the hp differences could just be noise and more or less ignored. If it was back to back, then sure 5hp is indeed a thing to be interested in, while keeping in mind that it's between 1 and 2% of the total.
BUT - you got a big torque bump it seems, across the whole low end, and that's kind of a big deal. Seeing this sheet I'd say that overall you got a big improvement and should be pretty happy. I certainly would be. |
