You have to have enough revs for the turbocharger time to kick in, but first gear is so high that you're usually changing up to second just as the turbo boost arrives.

u have to realize a diesel revs at 4k rpms sometimes less!! I have a duramax diesel and yes of course its definitly got lag from the time u floor it till it actually gets going..U need to have a different driving style for driving the diesel..The Turbo does not kick in untill 2k rpms so until then ur laggging..ur moving dont get me wrong but the acceleration difference compared to my other Z71 is completly different!
ha ha i just realized in my avatar u can see my diesel in the back! |

I notice all the guys answering this question don't drive a 330d or a 320d.
There should not be significant turbo lag - much much less in the e90 than there was in the e46 M57 or M57 TU. Are you driving Manual or Auto ? The auto often starts in 2nd, and then when you give it some gas it realises you mean business and pauses momentarily whilst selecting 1st and then disappears like you are in warp speed. Is this what you are seeing. If it is an auto and you want to make quick getaways - always choose DS in my experience especially if you have been driving quietly for a bit. The ESP in the gearbox needs a little time to realise how you are driving before it selects a more aggresive shirt pattern. DS mode has two sport patterns too - sport and extreme sport which it will select depending on how you drive. Let me know how you get on... Rgds |

This is quite normal, if you don´t drive an Diesel before.
In my case it was a 320d tour. E46, before I only drove gas-cars - but I really didn´t have any problems with my first Diesel. Additionally I tuned this touring on 180 PS , had 410 NM and V-Max was about 230 km/h - all together the same performance as the old 3-Litre-Diesel-engine! And the best of all, I had not any problems with often mentioned driveaway as a result of the higher performance. :rocks:

The turbo actually kicks in at 1600rpm's - with peak torque at 2000rpms.
If you don't want to experience "turbo" lag - which you would have in any car with one turbo , petrol or diesel - then my advice to you is to rev it up to about 1500rpm when releasing the clutch. By the time the clutch has released, the car is moving, the turbo is spinning and there is no lag. Just to reiterate. From a standstill, balance your clutch on 1500rpm (the rpm when the turbo starts spinning) and pull off. You won't experience any turbo lag. |

5 sec is too long, you are right, if you are driven at a constant speed with let say 2500 rpm ( 2 nd gear for example) and you kick down the gas pedal, did you still have this lag? in this condition, you should notice no lag.

They should check ALL possibilities at your 320d!!! Sometimes it´s really mystery, which cause this problem. Perhaps it lies on software, or the rail-pression is too low...you see, it´s not so easy to make a judgement.

What laws do you mean exact? Here in Germany it´s normal, that you can change the car after the 3rd service-stop into a new car. Is this given also in Austria?

Not sure what he means by rail pressure...but to me that term more less means theat your fuel rail is running rich and would be why your car is laaaggging!
