2012 N55 JB3 and DP Dyno Pulls
Today I went down to Specialty Z in Chatsworth, CA to get some dyno pulls on their DynoJet. My car is a 2012 n55 135i dct with a 4" catless downpipe and jb3. Also, this car is a March build date and has new map sensors, so this should be the first dyno post with this version. Terry@Burger Tuning decided to join me so I gave him my car and let him do his thing. The temperature was around 80 degrees outside and I was running 91 octane from Mobil, which we later figured out to be hindering my performance. More on that later.
So we strapped my car down and got her ready. The first few runs were scrapped because we were experimenting with some things. After everything got set, we decided to do one pull at different settings, starting with 0 psi (stock map) and increasing +1 psi, to +2 psi, 3.5 psi, and finishing with 4.5 psi which is where my max power came out. Here are the following numbers with each setting: Map 0 (+0 psi, downpipe, 91 octane): 274.72 whp and 299.36 wtq Map 1 (+1 psi, downpipe, 91 octane): 286.91 whp and 316.55 wtq Map 1 (+2 psi, downpipe, 91 octane): 299.71 whp and 327.18 wtq From here we noticed that adding more PSI wasn't yielding much more HP but the TQ was consistently rising. We couldn't figure it out, so we added some octane booster and that seemed to do the trick. Mobil 91 gas is crap, and it really limited my power. From here on out I will likely get shell. Anyway, back to the numbers. Map 1 (+3.5 psi, downpipe, 91 octane+octane booster): 322.01 whp and 350 wtq Map 1 (+4.5 psi, downpipe, 91 octane+octane booster): 326.19 and 379.14 wtq. All of these runs were at the end of about 20 experimental runs, so I'm sure heat was becoming a factor. The octane booster only seemed to help the HP as the TQ was always there in earlier runs we did without the octane booster. Hopefully this info is helpful for all you guys as it seems to be the only 2012 new mapped n55 dyno. I'd like to thank Terry Burger for all the help. He's seriously provided some of the best service I could imagine and more. Thumbs up to him and I recommend for any products you guys may want. And finally, here are the pictures to prove it. |

Nice!! That's some serious freakin torque.
And yeah 91 really really sucks, and ExxonMobil isn't even a particularly "bad" gas brand as far as the quality of the fuel goes. 93 FTW

So did you end up leaving with the +4.5psi mapped for daily driving? Is that safe on the crap we get here in CA? Nice numbers considering how many pulls you did. Can't wait to get my downpipe Did Terry tweak anything besides just the boost?
I wish we had better gas around To get up to 93 octane around here, we'd need 3 gallons of 100 octane @ $7.59/gal (last I saw) and 11 gallons of the piss we usually fill up with. Roughly an extra $10/tank comparing it to $4.19/gal for 91...almost worth it for that big torque bump.

You can get some octane booster. It adds 1-2 points and its about 13 bucks for a bottle. It helps! |

So how many maps are available for JB3 for N55?
I saw a guy with Procede for his N55 335i w/ AR DP and Remus catback and he put down 352whp and 423wtq... I'm definitely looking into JB3 over procede just because of the price and the numbers the JB4 put down for the N54. Is anybody putting down more WHP with the JB3? Sorry OP, nice numbers but I'm not impressed just yet... I have a buddy with an Evo X to impress HAHAHA |

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=544901 Another guy with similar mods put down similar power: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=548915 With 91 octane it seems 295-320whp is going to be pretty common with 315-340rw more common on 93 octane. BMS's N55 dynos are on their site for comparison. With either system it depends on the map/setings used. The JB4 for N55 is under development now and will have on the fly map switching, etc. Mike Last edited by Mike@N54Tuning.com; 06-26-2011 at 12:59 PM.. |

I too recently dynoed at specialty z
only have a custom intake and Jb3 on 335i added some ocatane booster for today temp were like 74 with like 20 humidity
my first couple runs on 3.75 only got me like 290whp and 320 ft i riased the booost to 4.0 i got 295 whp and 330 ft did a couple of runs never really broke those numbers was really upset the car wasnt putting out, so i raised to 5.0+ and i tried couple runs with intake and couple with stock best run with cool down was 316 whp and 348ft with intake best run with cool down stock box 305whp and 351 fts the crazy part dyno graph showed like over 20 whp at 5000rpm with the intake added over all ok numbers but def not as good as i though considering terry got on same dyno 310whp and 357 ft on just jb3 at 3.75 |

I'm running it now on my 135i as beta testing. As far as I have noticed, it pulls much smoother. I'm running lower boost on stage 2 and it feels as powerful as my stage 1 with higher boost. Also, there is far less lag. The coolest part, IMO, is the fully integrated steering wheel controls. I can now select stock mapping or any map within 5 seconds. I also have my gas gauge set up to boost, and my temp. gauge set up to AF ratio. If you'd like to check it out, hit me up.

I'll be out of the country from the 5th-19th so it'll have to be very soon or after that! Maybe even talk to Terry. I know he was looking for local testers.
