gotta agree with CMD, i think most mod to make their car unique. before the E90 I had my honda and i modded that car...

some of the modded E90's look sweet, but I think i've outgrown the hobby. i'm just happy that i don't need to do anything to my E90 because it's exactly the way i want it...i like keeping it OEM

maybe some rims down the line...but the stock 162's look too great

I was against "modding" initially and I said I would never mod my car. After I got the chrome exhaust tips, that decision went out the window. Like someone said, there are two different types of modding. I'm not really into performance modifications since I don't really care about racing and stuff - I'm more into the asthetics. Everyone wants their E90 to different from other E90's.

This girl at my work got the same E90 exact color and model as me, so I am trying to set mine apart from hers - I don't want ppl. confusing the two. I already have the Xenons, chrome tips, and tint which she doesn't. The 162's and chrome grill are next...

I agree with you.

The only explanation is just to tell how people how wealthy you are to bring down paid (and still functioning ) parts from your new car and replace with expensive and so-called sportier looking OEM parts which are so hard to look for and have nothing to do with performance improvement. Most of the time, except the owners, would not be able to tell what have been changed!

I guess people enjoy going through the process more than the end result. There migth be a sense of satisfaction about creativity of car engineering as a hobby of good topics among friends.

Unfortunately, many dealers are now promoting aftermarkets mods because they see that is a big slice of pie that they don't want to give all away to the pro shops. Every new car bronchure I read are containing tuner kits options. e.g. M-Sport, AMG..etc

why mod? because i all but hate the e90 look to be honest. i was considering the e46 330ci because i liked the looks better, but i wanted to get the newest one and once i test drove it, it felt a lot more powerful and solid than the e46. so basically i got the e90 330 solely for performance.

I will admitt that I used to "mod" my cars in the past. I learned alot from doing that both good and bad, mostly bad I have to say. The car never ran the same. I won't mod the cars that I have now, I'll drive as is.

No fun, but there is another way....

I got a Barrique Red 330i/Terra/Aluminum and other than the blackline lights (not really a mod in my opinion) it IS stock and NOT the same as hardly anyone. No modding required.

yup, can only agree with every one else, who wants a e90 that looks like and
drives like every other e90? not me! the word 'personalising;' just speaks for itself.
True , there are people who don't give a toss about adding anything on their car. i think i definitely belong to the other camp!

I mod because I have a personal problem. I'm stupid! Just look at my signature to see the injustices that I have done to my wonderful e90! Oh the humanity!

For the 1st six months of ownership of my E46 328i I felt the car was lacking in power. I spend $1000 on a Dinan CAI and S/W. It only added about 15 hp, but I never felt the car was lacking again.

When my OEM wheels got banged up, I got my BBS RGRs.

When my bass was lacking, I added a Basslink.

Now for my e90, I've got the wheels, so I use 'em.

I couldn't see my radio display with my polorized sunglasses on, so I modded that so I could see it.

This summer my cabin will get bright and hot so I will tint my windows.

When good 325i performance mods come out, I will get something safe that adds a few hp -- prob from Dinan. Who couldn't use a little extra safe hp?

We mod for what we want or what our cars are lacking. Anything can be taken to the extreme. You don't have to take it there.

Light modding is GOOD!

Funny though how you mod your car to be "different" but end up looking like the guy next to you because of what's popular. Still fun none the less.

I believe officer smy says something like "oh the humanity" in the movie.

I think Super Troopers, Poolhall Junkies, and Ronin are some of the best movies ever made for entertainment purposes...

its all about uniqueness and how much people love their cars...
why do people auction/buy and spend thousands of dollars on renewing their dusenbergs? because they have a hobby of renewing a old classic car
why do people modify whatever their car is? because they love their car and have a hobby of making it look better and do anything to make car better for themselves.
people would do anything to make their car better regardless of money and time if they truly love their car..
yea m3 sounds nice but having a modified e90 that no one else has is better i think

Anybody watch Unique Autosports / Whips? People buy Ferrari's, Bently's and Aston Martins and still do mods (wheels, grills, audio, etc.). So the idea of just saving your money and buying a "nicer" car doesn't really work, does it?!

Its obviously to 'customize' your ride. Some is functional for increased performance, some is for looks for increased curb appeal. There's not much to not get - its pretty straight forward.

Not unlike buying a house and doing aftermarket 'mods' like replacing some appliances (performance) or painting a room a 'customized' color or planting flowers (curb appeal).
