Why higher sales tax? I think sales tax should based on your registered address instead where you purchase it. :iono:

I picked up my 135i from Concours last week. I am in the Milwaukee area.
I haven't seen any other 1's on the road around here yet. I was thinking of joining the BMWCCA and the Badger Bimmer group. It would be cool to take the ONE out on Road America in Elkhart Lake eh? |

Mad town 1er
I got my '08 135i vert three weeks ago. It's Metalic Graphite with Coral red leather, and all the options I would've chose myself (plus a few more), had I been the guy to do the choosing. I live on the isthmus, work on campus, and hang on the east side. I'm a blue collar guy, and this is my first really sporty car (I'm told I can't call my former turbo Jetta "sporty", so I don't, but I miss it), so it's a big deal for me. Ever since I read about the 1-series, I knew I wanted one, it's the perfect car for me. My plan was to wait for a couple years and get a lease return. Plans change. Thanks to the bad economy (I guess) and the fact that a small, high powered, rear wheel drive, convertible is apparently not in high demand in Madison, WI, I was able to buy a unsold 2008, below the dealers invoice, and WAY below sticker. I spent the first weekend (Easter) cruising (spritedly but below recomended break in RPMs) on, a lot of the great roads just East of The Mississippi, trying my best to give it good, varied, break in. I had to get that break in completed because I didn't think it would be right to autocross my new car before the break in period was through. I spent the next weekend (at just over 1200 on the odometer) dodging little orange cones in the parking lot of Miller Park. I left plenty of rubber behind, but took with me, a much better appreciation of the capabilities of this car. I even did a pretty spectacular spinnout (DTC/DSC dissabled), thanks to coming into a corner WAY too fast on my second run, and that was BEFORE it started raining. For never autocrossing before, I finished 13th out of about 40 cars in my class. Not quite good enough for a trophy, but respectable for my first time, so I'm told. The car gets the credit. I love it. I highly recomend autcrossing to anyone, I'll be there for the next one .

Deal. There's one on May 17th (Wisconsin Autocrossers) and one on May 24 (MIlawaukee SCCA). From what I understand, even though they're organized by different clubs, the events them self are identical (even down to the same people). Pretty much the only thing necessary to participate is a helmet (Snell M95 or better), a willingness to empty everything out of your car (even the floor mats), and you don't mind hanging out on the course and shagging cones during the heats you're not driving in. If you don't have a helmet, and your head is gigantic (like mine) you're welcome to use mine, provided we're in separate heats or far enough apart in the grid (which would be great for taking some photos too). It's a complete blast. The cost is around $40, but it's a whole day thing.

Hello from Madison
alas some fellow 'sconies! Just got my 2008 SGM 135i last month and I've been loving every minute of it.
Have you guys been getting around pretty well in the winter time around here? I picked up a winter wheel and tire package from tirerack to help things out a bit but I'm still amazed at the amount of snow we get in the Madison area. The first year I moved up here (2007) we got over 110 inches of snow, not sure how much the 135i is going to like another winter like that. |

Great color Schnitzel,
Now there are at least two SGM 135s in Madison, but mines a vert. I know there have to be a few around here, but I still haven't seen a single one around here. I'm also curious to test the winter abilities of it as I got mine in spring. My new set of blizzaks (also from the Rack) is ready to be installed, and from what I've read, traction should not be an issue. I'm mostly concerned about clearance, and damage from snowplowing with the front end entering and leaving driveways and unplowed side streets on the isthmus. |
