swapping my non-sport for sport seats
Both are manual so I don't see any worry electronically. Anyone done this? Will my airbags still work?
This is going in an e82 128i. Also are my stock non-sports seats worth anything? Thx! |

I've done this and it works. BUT there is an electrical connection for the air bladder in the side bolsters that pumps up to hug your ribs, that will need to be wired in. You should swap out the little sensor on the seat rail from your old seats the the new ones. ALSO, unplug the battery when you do this or else you get codes thrown.
Also the old seats aren't worth anything.

Any tips on how to wire that bolster pump in? Will I need to make a switch? Thx

The switch is part of the seat. You'd have to check the wiring plug to see if that part is live without additional wiring. I've never been where you are going . . . and I hardly ever use the seat-bolster width adjustment anyway.

There is a thread on here that I followed, you'll have to look for it. No you don't need to make a switch, there is already one on the seat. Your factory wire harness wont have the wire running to this control so you need to run a wire to the fuse box with an add-a-circuit connector and one to ground.

Did the job over the weekend. Very easy. Biggest hiccup was self inflicted. Careful when you handle the battery!
Anyway, just four t-45 I think. Disconnect harness, unblot seat buckle, disconnect the seat sensor on the rail. It's a 4mm Allen key or something. Easy peazy. Place the old seatbelt buckle on the new seat and loop your wires through the rails. Reconnect the seat sensor on the rail. The harnesses only fit one way into the harness sleeve. It looks like Tetris pieces. Make sure the harness sleeve is secure and just reinstall the bolts through the rails. I missed my heated seats that night, but the new sport seats are just wildly more suited for this car. They really hold you down when you get playful in corners or winding roads. And they're super comfy. |

FYI your new seats should be heated too, but they need to be wired in like the side bolsters. If you already had heated seats then that will save you the trouble of coding them in and getting the right HVAC controller like I needed to do. (and still yet to finish)

I haven't tried because if they're not heated I'm worried about what turning the button on would do. My kid hit them the other day and they light up, but I freaked out cuz I didn't know where the power would be going to if the seats aren't actually heated... Am I being too cautious? Would you try just turning them on to see? I've self-inflicted so many issues over the years that I've become paranoid, especially with electrical stuff. |

LOL, You should be fine for just testing it. If you don't have the heating element then the heated seat button when pressed (assuming nothing was wired in) would never get the signal from the controller to (whichever) module that would actually be supplying the wattage for the heating element. For the side bolsters I did ghetto rig it which worked but I've undone those wires for the moment while I wait for things to warm up so I can finish the job. Irony alert.
Anyway to get the side bolsters going just for giggles you can use an add-a-circuit fuse on the fuse box (20a or 30a min I think)and splice a wire to get power to the bolster. Then tap into a ground wire somewhere and you are good.

Hey all, I just joined so I’m not able to make my own thread.
I bought f30 m sport seats to be fitted into my e87. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for both the f30 and e87 so that I can get this done (trying to learn to do things myself) and maybe if anyone has done this a quick run through would help! Also do the bolsters work in wired in my car is SE from factory (tons of mods done at this point) Thank you! |
