Question Door unlock question

I've had my 325i for less than two weeks... can't stop driving it! Did my first coat of Zaino today and agree with what I have read; that stuff is great!

I was able to set the automatic door locks easily, but is there any way to automatically unlock the doors when the engine is stopped?
I know the interior door handle will unlock the door after two pulls, but it would be nice to have this happen after the engine is off.

Thanks to everyone's comments on this site... it has been real helpful!

No auto unlock preset unless a BMW has been involved in a accident. Lights turn on as well.

Welcome & enjoy your car.

Auto Locking

thxbuff2001 -

The mode to lock all the doors can be set through the "Automatic Locking" setting. See pages 22 and 23 of your Owners Manual. Its very simple, but if you need a step-by-step procedure, let me know and I will post it.

Welcome to the board.

I just set my car so that the door locks don't lock unless I press the button; that way, you only have to pull the door handle once to get out. Can't tell you how many times confused passengers have pulled on the handle and pushed hard on the door with their shoulder to try to get out in my old car until I had the dealer reprogram it. Now, you can program it yourself.

I still don't know of an important reason to lock the car doors automatically once the car is moving, unless you are constantly driving in rough neighborhoods or something.

I'm with Atty, for the first couple of months, I used the auto door lock feature.

After some minor annoyances, I've turned this feature off. Much happier now. I have not had to drive through rough neighborhoods yet, but can easily lock the doors myself.

Odd - not the question, but everyone's responses.

I don't know if it's just a South African thing, or if all E90's can be programmed to do it - but my car auto-unlocks when I switch the ignition off.

I have auto locking, so as I drive away the doors lock. And then when I want to exit my vehicle, i turn it off and the door nob(lock) pops up. If I am not using comfort access, the door nob(lock) pops up when I take the fob out of the slot.

It is possible because I have it. It might be a country specific thing ... but it can be done!

Good luck finding out ;-)

My E90 with comfort access from South Africa also auto unlocks when I switch off engine. Perhaps all non-US models do this?

It's a dam computer setting! All it takes is some "unlazy" (yea right? in america..) service techi to go into the computer and set it. It's in the same setting on the BMW computer as the auto-door-locks.

The last time I wanted something done - that couldn't be done - I found a german technition, who could read german and set it off BMW's software (most of it is still in german) with only bits translated.

I posted the same question not too long ago and received some helpful replies, and some UNhelpful replies asking me why on earth would I want this feature:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6359

I called my dealer who checked into it with the service dept. He called me back later and told me that it is not possible to do it. I'm guessing the correct answer is one of these:

- Not possible on US cars
- Not possible on US cars unless you know the super secret way of doing it (that my dealer doesn't know about)
- Not possible without Broken1's German technician

You'd be surprised what is possible with some one who's willing to help.

On my E46 325ti, I was told by 4 dealers that the passenger window couldn't "auto-close" by pulling the button 2 clicks, the german guys fixed it.
I was told audio confirmation on locking was impossible, I watched the german guy navigate the german menu's and do it!

With my E90 - I was told by 3 dealers AND BMW South Africa that the sensitivity of my light sensor (and auto lights) could not be adjusted, and I would have to live with them turning on at lunchtime. The workshop manager at JSN Motors (a 4th BMW dealer) told me to come in, and he adjusted it on his computer while I waited.

I have more of these stories, my father has had things done too...many times.
When the E46 facelift came out, he took one of the first and was told that the software hadn't arrived to set "locking at driveaway" - this was when we met the german technician!!!

I just don't believe it can't be done - especially if it is somewhere else in the world - you just need to find someone willing to do it...

You need to have iDrive for this:

Menu - i - Vehicle Settings - Door locks - Central Locking
