Well - the car in Chicago (w/o the oil cooler in the wheel well) did have ZSP so it should be a 150 MPH car. I suspect that the wheel well oil cooler is the legendary 'supplemental oil cooler' and I suspect it's for markets where sustained high-speed driving can occur. Nothing official, but that's the only thing I can think of.
Remember, BMW has brought a number of pre-production and non-US spec cars to meet the demand for autoshows and photography. There is a BMW event at Laguna Seca this coming week where hopefully bryan@mworks can pigeonhole an engineer and waterboard him. Torture is a perfectly valid procedure to get to the bottom of our oil cooler conundrum. ; -) |

I'm not bored with the topic. I'm spending $40,000 for a high performance automobile that comes with an engine that has had over heating issues in the past without an oil cooler.
Hope we dont have to wait until Match 22 to find out. |

Which is, of course, the fundamental problem. The oil cooler is a band-aid for larger thermal management issues, and it'll be interesting to see if the 135i's packaging exacerbates them.

Thats kind of like calling an intercooler on a turbocharged engine a band-aid, which it is in a sense, with physics being what it is when you compress air beyond a certain point making it too hot for the engine. What BMW has done wrong (or not 100% correct maybe), is they haven't equipped all N54 engines with enough cooling capacity to handle real world use. It's a corner that shouldn't have ever been cut. |

100% agree. The oil cooler should be part of the standard cooling package on all N54's as part of the engine design. "Band-aid" was a poor choice of words..."necessary" being the more operative term considering the lack of margin at high engine load. Also, having pumped up the boost on turbo cars before, engine and underhood temps frequently become an issue even if they were never an issue in stock tune. Cooling system upgrades will be money well-spent for anyone tuning their N54 IMHO. |

It doesn't make a difference. His father is also in Slovenia. We're in a totally different market. I think I'll find out if I get an external oil cooler when I take delivery of my car shortly...

My understanding from a co-worker with a 335 coupe currently running Procede V1.4 was that there was no issues with oil temperature on the manual transmission versions. It was only the first automatics that had the oil cooling problem. If a problem was experienced an additional oil cooler was installed free of charge.
For what it is worth he has had no issues to date with procede 1.4 installed. Has V2.0 but has not intalled it yet...something about not needing the extra power in the Canadian winters...blah blah blah blah |

The first two sentences were written by Ms. Hawley. The remaing words are just boilerplate. Meaningless.

I thought that would be the case, I am glad someone from BMW has confirmed it now. Awesome!!! Dinan will make good use of that and maybe even make a more aggresive flash for the 135i than they did for the 335i.

I just called BMWNA and spoke with a rep who said there's no news of a secondary oil cooler and nobody by the name of Darlene Hawley who works there. I encourage you all to call and find this out for yourselves.
