Michelin PS 4S first impressions
Just replaced the original Bridgestone RFT’s with the PS 4S on my 135is with only 6,600 miles. OEM size is not available in the 4S so went with 225/40 and 255/35 on the OEM wheels. No rubbing issues so far. Ride has been dramatically improved. DSC no longer comes on when getting on the throttle or going over bumps. Wet handling is also dramatically improved over the Bridgestones. I highly recommend this replacement/upgrade.
BTW - I’m considering selling my 135is. It’s mineral grey, 6 speed, black leather with blue stitching and 6,600 miles. It’s one of one in this color combo and options. PM me if interested and I’ll provide more details. |

If you're still on original RFTs since 2013 they were far beyond shot to shit. Not surprised the PS4S felt better but you'll never know how much since just about anything this side of a hockey puck would have felt awesome.
Mich makes a great tire IMO.

Car only has 6,600 miles and the RFT’s were just starting to show signs of dry rot. It’s a summer only car. I agree on the Michelin’s. Switched my 2011 X3 to the S4’s as well from the Pirelli RFT’s. Another huge difference. Have the PSS’s on my 2007 M Coupe.

Michelin tires are truly fantastic tires. I won't buy anything else now a days. Not just for their ride and grip... but in the rain and at the end of the tire's Life... they ride/drive just like when new. No other tire I have run can do that.
PS: You should replace your tires when they are older than five years old. Look at the(four digit week/year) tire build date on the sidewall. Even IF the tire has thread... replace after five years old. Dack

Years ago I saw something on German TV about tires... they had eight year old tires(but with full tread, 8mm's) on the rear of a VW Golf... and new tires on the front... then they drove the car on a hill test area/track in the wet(sprinklers on)... the car would oversteer and loose control so easily. Then they put those old tires on the front axle... and the car had terminal understeer. It was shocking. Then they did laps with four new tires... the car was so much faster in it's lap times. I was sold. The test really showed people how big a role tires make in how a car rides and handles and performs! Always check your tire's build date codes. Here in Germany it's illegal for a tire dealer to sell old tires. I think older than three months old. When I have bought tires they have always been one or two weeks old... bc no tire shops stock tires... they get them in one or two days via DHL here. https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/...-of-your-tires Dackel

I still love my 2011 with almost 100K miles, and can't really afford two of these cars, but to the next owner, have fun!! |

I wish Michelin sold an extreme performance summer tire. Was looking at the SC2 but it is R comp I think, not to mention $$$. Would be nice to have something from them a little grippier in back than standard fare summer.
Speaking of expired tires... Be wary of buying tires from Amazon. I wanted a temporary tire to bridge some time while I waited for rims to be ready and got a pair of KOOK v12 Evo 2s. They were advertised as new but production date was 2012! 7 years old! Needless to say they were immediately returned. Stick with tire rack or a reputable wheel seller like Apex.

Tires actually last longer than many think:

PSS were my first replacement tires. I miss their wet traction but I do not believe the mileage I got out of them was consistent with the tread wear rating. They did not last long. I had to learn to back off cornering on wet roads with the replacements I got (tigerpaw, definitely not anything special).
The only flat I've gotten in nearly 50 years driving that was not a slow leak was an old tire on a trailer. I wasn't paying strict attention and hit a pot hole on the shoulder and the tire ruptured. I was probably 20 years old. I'm still not the best about trailer tires but I have changed them on my boat trailer and should on my utility trailer too. Car tires get worn out first.
