People suck
Discovered this lovely surprise when I went to wash my car after class and work. My friend knows a guy that can buff the car and do paint repair for a good price. I might go with that come summer time or I might just have to see if anyone can do vinyl wrap for less than 2k. Oh well, life could be worse. Gotta look on the bright side, my car is driving strong and it's been good to me for the 6 months I've had it knock on wood.

Sucks for sure but doesn't look too bad in the pic, is it to the metal? If not just have it buffed shouldn't cost more than $100

The first one (where the scratch started before the gap and continuation) is all the way to the metal. The rest of it thins out as it goes down but I can feel it with my finger nail throughout the entirety of the scratch

Honestly my suggestion would be to have someone buff out the shallow part. Then for the darker spot, get a paint pen from BMW that matches your paint code and fill it in. Don't do the clear, use as little as possible, you're just trying to prevent rust not be the next Picasso. I bet it'll be barely noticeable after that.

That's an intentional key mark they always seem to have a very similar pattern. I've had a car keyed before and it left a similar mark.

It could be random but you might be right. There are a lot of racist assholes out there. What good does it do them? Do they really feel good about themselves afterwards?

Well, that pretty much sums it up, I always refrain from putting up political or even sports teams sticker on my car. It seems assholes look for any excuse to vandalize your car.

Definitely agree with this. The only stickers on my car are a Car Throttle "H" on my back window and a very subtle Nurburgring outline next to the rear plate lol

I have worse. When a guy was stealing my jack and jack stands, he dug through a long scratch in my car that's about 1/4" wide. All through the paint. About 6-8 inches long.
I spent forever trying to fix it. Of course, no paint online matches it correctly. And then, when I was trying my damndest to fix it, I sanded through the clear. :'( I now have marks on my drivers side door that are ridiculous deep as well and in a weird shape. No way to fix because paint won't adhere in these types of situations. No idea how they got there. Could be a vandal, could not. Just have these bright white/silver marks on the side of my car. Wooo! People are indeed great... In my second photo I attached, you can see on the "grey" looking part in the middle of the photo and that's the clear being sanded completely through... and even some paint. Sad times when I realized. No stickers or anything on my car. This is just how it is when you live in the bay area. People steal your shit constantly and wreck your stuff. You have to really be protective of what you own. (Good locks, anything valuable unseen, keep car in a locked garage only you can access, etc.) Last edited by TridenTBoy; 01-17-2018 at 04:22 PM.. |

It's hard to know why anyone vandalizes a specific car, and guesses later based on biases are unlikely to be true. Most people don't do this sort of thing, regardless of how much they may dislike what it is you have on your bumper, stickers on the windows, etc.
My STi that got vandalized several years ago had it's wing removed before I took delivery of it, since I couldn't stand it and did not want to drag race every testosterone-laden teenager I encountered while driving. It looked for all the world like a brand new Impreza (which is to say UGLY), but with some STi badging if you looked for it. I'm 99.9% of who vandalized it, because I saw them eyeing it when I left the car to go into the Home Depot, and I was back out at the car in 15 or 20 minutes which didn't leave time for a lot of other people in this deserted parking lot to attack my car. They were of a particular minority ethnic group which I will not name. I guess I could draw all sorts of caricatures and ethnic slurs out of this experience, however I think it has more to do with their being pathetic creatures who were envious of this car, and chose to take out their envy in that manner. That doesn't make the rest of the people sharing their ethnicity similarly horrid. Calling all of the supporters of this or that political candidate racist, for which you have zero proof, and assuming that was was done was based on that sort of animus, is similarly small-minded thinking.
