Can anyone confirm whether we have to remove the oil cooler on the passenger side to get to and remove this piece? I plan on removing them today and cutting them tomorrow.

Simply due to the way the plastic was molded, it's impossible to hide the void/marks where the cross bar was but they are insignificant and as the owner of the car, you're the only one who will ever notice. Consider using something like Mother's Back to Black afterwards... it helped me.

lol I cut them with a hack saw while on the car. You are over thinking this man, just be careful not to hit the paint. Once you get through it enough it will just snap off, then just sand it down.

Not so much overthinking, I live in an apt with no exterior power and no extension coord to reach outdoors. Work is the same thing, I finally remembered there was an outlet in a family members garage so I finally got it done today with a dremel.

No power tools required. Hack saw blade will do it.

If I had a hack saw I would not have needed power. I finished the job so we can stop overthinking my underthinking and I should have prefaced my first question with: I have zero tools for this job. I borrowed the dremel from work.
On the bright side of disassembling the plastic body work underneath I learned how truly inefficient the ducting is on the front of our cars. You have the brake ducts and then you have the ducts going to the OC where it only blows on 50%(?) of the face of the OC. The drivers side OC duct literally just catches air. The outer edges of the FMIC intake could also be used and are used in the performance bumper with the air package. We should have a similar package available, not including the Perf bumper, for these cars.

I just did mine and then cut a 3" hole through the vertical splitter to add to the air flow into the brake duct. But now the damn TPMS system doesn't work. I also found a connector and some wires in the passenger side I cut through. No biggie. Just JB4 the TPMS.
Anyone have an idea what I cut? Ill get pics tomorrow. |

Be sure to use tape around where you cut
I just did this mod - it looks great.
As others have said, be use to take your time, AND use masking/electrical tape around the cut area. I used a handsaw and a handfile to smooth the edges. Exercise care when you are sawing so you dont have contact (duh) with the blade and the paint - otherwise, you will have a "wear spot". I had to get some touch-up paint!

Did this today, love it. Used this mini hack saw kit which worked perfectly http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
As others have said, spend a few minutes applying painters tape to the surrounding area. I also put tape on the plastic insert so that the blade didn't mar it. Last edited by Adam135; 05-05-2013 at 08:30 PM.. |

Easier for you to just go look at the insert and you'll see how we are cutting it out. You don't need to remove it to cut the fin out. Super simple.

You have to go through the wheel well, you can easily remove the drivers side unless you have the PPK radiator. The OC is on the passenders side which makes it a major PIA and not worth it at all. I removed the drivers side and dremeled the passengers side while still on the car.

No, removing the insert entirely will make it look weird. Cutting it is the best choice IMO. Then if you wanted to go back to stock youd buy two new inserts, remove bumper, and install.
