Oxidation in steering wheel roundel
I noticed today my steering wheel roundel looks like it's scratched up... But the thing is smooth still but looks bad. Is this worth having dealer look at? Will they do anything? The car has been immacuately maintained and it bothers me..

I noticed the same exact thing too! I couldn't figure out how to explain it but I guess it could be oxidation. I figured it had to do with some type of cleaning supply that I might of used.

I've never used any cleaning fluid, I put leather/vinyl conditioner on the wheel itself, but never touched the roundel... I think theres just something wrong with it. like maybe its coming apart? I dont know =(

This is not your fault!
The oxidation within the roundel is a common fault and can be seen through many dealerships on cars that haven't yet even been delivered. BMW dealerships simply hope that customers will not complain about it as it is an expensive repair for them because the roundel does not come off the wheel. Instead the entire airbag unit has to be replaced in full. I have witnessed 3 cases of this now and all 3 have been covered under warranty at dealership level. |

Mine is scratched as well, and has been since I bought it... not worth replacing it IMO

dont know what roundel overlays are, but for me it was great... I was at software 30.something or whatever... 29.2... then because they had to reflash ecu, I got free upgrade... better drivability

The dealer changed the oil on my car but refuses to fix the defective steering wheel roundel and passenger airbag dash indentation because it's not severe enough to justify the cost.
