I had mine done at 65k miles. What a huge difference. After I got it back, stock felt like stage 1 Cobb (Pre blasting) and stage 1 just made it a whole new animal!

Its crazy this has to be done at 49,000 miles. The before shot looks terrible. My car has 38k on it, but I do 97% highway miles, so I am hoping i wont have to do it for awhile.

What exactly is going on here? This is the first I've heard of this. My car has 52k or so miles but is only 2 years old. Is this something I should look for?

Apparently this happens on direct injection engines such as the N54 and N55. The fuel in regular injection keeps this area clean.

It isn't a quick job. It takes a while to complete, plus the cost of materials, I dont think it was too expensive

So what's the user-scope on regular use of injector cleaners via gas line? Do you all use those "empty contents into empty tank" $4.99 pints?
And wow -- talk about the significance of clean fuel! |

Go do a little research on Direct injection Carbon build up (hint, it's not just BMW's). Fuel quality has nothing to do with this.

On older style motors air and fuel are mixed in the accumulator, then the mixture is vacuumed into the cylinder through the intake valves. the fuel keeps the valves clean. In direct injection, only air passes through the intake valves, and the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder from a different line. power gains significant, but the downfall is that with just air, gunk builds up on the intake valves and has to be cleaned periodically. worth it imo.

ONLY in the German cars.
Sadly....and i do have to say this is rather sad....GM has a solution it's called correct timing. Toyota just went with an extra injector on the outside of the intake valve for start up cleanings. Both work very well. BMW/Auid we are screwed....and no it's not covered and good luck getting a class action case. |
