Does it scare you how attached you've gotten to your 1?
I have never been a car guy. I drove a Mazda 3 before the 1 and it was perfectly good for a long time.
Then I test drove the 1 here in Toronto for about five minutes. I looked at salesman and said "take me back to the dealership, I'm done". Then I looked at my girlfriend and had this look that she knew as "I'm buying this car like right now." I waited, I don't know how, went off to Europe for the summer, saw them all over Italy, and the day I returned, plunked down the $50k and drove away without another test drive. Now I've had some issues, but overall the car is so kick ass that I find myself becoming attached to it in a way that makes me uncomfortable. Despite years of training in Buddhism, meditation and other crap (LOL), I find myself more and more touchy about the car, where it's parked, the whole nine yards. Every time I drive this baby I marvel at its power, acceleration, aesthetics, feel, the whole damn experience. I woke up this morning and it had snowed. Somebody had drawn some pictures on my front hood with the snow. I saw it and got all worked up when it was probably just some happy, little kid enjoying the first bit of winter. I thought "I'm over the line now" LOL. I love the car and the experience so much it's starting to worry me. Anyone else loving their baby a little too much? |

I definitely felt the same way when I test drove it. Originally I was looking for a 128i. Drove that, it was meh to me since my '07 GTI was modified to be quite snappy.
He showed me the 135i they had on demo that they were going to sell... I literally couldn't say no. My buddy was with me at the time (for if the GF was there, I would've been murdered) and he knew, right when we got in the car, that there was no stopping me to purchase it haha. We'll see on Thursday how obsessed I'll be ... I was just getting bored/sick of the car scene, we'll see what this one does to it! |

I felt the same with my previous car.. but I have toned down with this car because at the end of the day its a just a car and when your partner says you love your car more then her then its really bad.. but I secretly still talk to it sometimes especially when its purrring lol... I say "good girl purr for me" LOL ok thats just weird..

What scares me is that my 1 has been stuck in customs for 2 WEEKS!

YES! Totally obsessed. I'm sure there will come a time when I will think of this car as just a machine -- a truly excellent machine -- but I think that time is a long way off. Further off than with any car I've owned.

i've always loved my cars, but what surprises me is how much my WIFE has come to love the car....and she wanted an SUV.
the other day i happened to remark at how good the deals were now for new M3's, and asked what she thought if i sold the 1 and got the M3. i didn't get a response, but the look i got made me fear for my life |

I seem to have some psychological attachment to mine, someone opened their door into it a few weeks ago, I still feel the dent on the side of my head whenever I drive it, and my wife ground the underneath on a curb the other day, it was like having a cheese grater run down my back, I have to repeat to myself ... it's just a car ... it's just a car ... it's just a car

I keep mine safely locked up in the garage and only bring it out on dry weekends, would hate for it to get wet. Don't know what I will do when the snow arrives, probably walk everywhere.

I find it kind of weird on how I live vicariously through members such as Surname, EspressoBoy, cozza, ichiban, and silverbullet. Special thanks to all the members who put up great posts and photos to remind of how hard I need to work to go somewhere to achieve the pursuit of happiness.

Today, the hot rod was possibly driven for the last time for about 6 months as the rainy season is upon the Pacific North West. The little monster must not see rain, that would never do. Tire cradles, occasional starts, battery chargings, gas treatment, addiction/obsession is the cruelest mistress of all. Indeed...
