my car weighs 3,410lbs with almost full tank

weighed my 135i on truck scales and got 3,410lbs, without me in it. a friend weighed his e36 m3 and it weighed only 3,240, with less than a full tank.

this is what i expected, but when I thought about it, that's really heavy. my g35 weighed 3,500 and i thought it was a pig. but the g35 was the size of a e39 5 series!

IIRC, the E39 with the I6 and MT only weighed about 3,400 lbs.

Seems about right. I wieghted mine a little while ago and it was 3460 with me in it and about a half a tank of gas. I wish this thing could loose a couple hundred pounds or so, but I don't think it's too porky.

This has been a trend with new car, its not a surprise, safety increases along with total weight and of course power is increased to compensate for the weight gain. My Z is 3,4xx, the new EVO X and STi are 3,2xx-3xx, even the GT-R is 3,800 + gas and driver you're close to 4,000; but look at how they perform! Our 1ers are no push overs either

Eek, does sound heavy. Seems worth it, though. I'm sure that weight in the back to balance the car doesn't help .

- I don't allow passengers since they weigh so much so I took out the backseats and the passenger seat
- I installed carbon fiber everything
- I removed all the carpet, headliner, and sound deadening
- I replaced the drivers seat with a drilled titanium shell. No padding.
- Removed air conditioning, stereo, and heater.

Now.. I'm ready. Maybe I can keep up with traffic on US interstates and street.

Hehe, they had us put the 135i on the scales at Watkins Glen with a pretty good amount of gas in it and it was so heavy, they thought there was a problem with the scales.

So they rolled us off and back on again two or three times until they have convinced themselves that the car (with roll cage) actually did weight 3531 lbs.

It's expected - the 135i is an E36 M3 with extra goodies on it:
- Twin turbo and associated plumbing/cooling
- Bigger brakes
- Beefier 6sp tranny
- Extra stiffening
- Couple more airbags

I will gladly trade the decreased performance for the added safety. Yeah it could have been lighter, but it isn't a raw sports car. Maybe that's why they didn't put a real lsd in, to save weight.

It like most systems going from mechanical to electonics is to save money.

The 1 is heavier than cars of old but among the current lineup of vehicles its really not that porky compared to most other cars on the market. The SL65 weighs in at something like 4400lbs and pulls a 12.0 in the 1/4m :eyebulge:
