I agree. I'm gonna try to be financially smart this time around and not jump the gun... pretty much lost all bargaining power when I placed my deposit.

How do you guys make a deal if you've put your name and deposit in a waiting list? I need to learn.

With the news of the M1 launching in less than a year (for United States), I've been in a real bind on whether to cancel the 2011 135i, and getting a 2012 M1 instead. Or, just gung-ho with the wallet and get a M3 now. I own (and plan to trade-in) a Z4, so I'm not limited by a lease.

So I can:

1. stay with the 2011 (knowing that N55 is probably not as mod-friendly as N54)
2. cancel 2011, wait for 2012 M1
3. pile on another ~$17K now and ED a 2011 M3 (not sure when the M3 refresh is due...)

Thoughts? Recommendations?

First you should ask yourself this question:

What are the factors that you are willing to spend several grand or even 10k dollars more to get the M1 other than 135i? (the reason I say $10k more is: you can negotiate price from invoice for 135i, but I think you should thank god if you can buy a M1 just for MSRP)

Then, with those factors in mind, you ask yourself the second question (suppose you does not limit yourself to be only buying BMW cars):

Within such price range, and with those factors in mind, is M1 the best choice for yourself? Remeber: the higher the price is, the more good performance cars you can choose from.

Here I share my case, why I purchase a 135i: because for that price range (around $40k), the 135i is the fastest and has good handeling within any luxury brand cars.

So for the M1's price range, will it be the fastest luxury car? will it has the best handling among all competitors?

Just my 2cents.

Garage List
Same dilemna

I had the same dilemma...I've test driven M3's and 335's and 135's, finally ordered a Le Mans Blue 135 with DCT, nav, "M", everything I want, at $25,000 cheaper than an M3 and I get to pick it up 21 Jun in Munich.

Should I have waited for the mysterious "M1"....I figure I'll get 1.5 years worth of driving excitement with my 135 DCT until the "M1" is actually on sale. Besides, I figure the "M1" price will be $5000-$8,000 more than my 135 anyway. That will buy my ECU, exhaust, rims and carbon fiber....and I'm driving it now.

Just my two cents as this is officially my first post...looking forward to learning from you "addicts".

smart move... there is always something better just around the corner, but if you keep waiting for the next big thing, you will drive yourself crazy.

Get the 2011 DCT or 6MT 135 and throw in some mods. I lost 2 years of my life but made up 20years in the last few days. M1, M3 and especially 335is is overpriced and over rated relative to the 135.

Did I consdier the M1 M-diff and carbon fiber roof ( I did not want a sunroof)? Absolutley. Could I have waited any longer? Absolutley not. After 3 days this holds true.

By the way, our knobs are bigger than the M3's.
