Fined in VIC
I went down to the the BMW driving training thingy @ phillip island (wow great fun).. but on the way back to melb CBD... on the highway M1? where there was alot of roadwork, abt 20k to the CBD?...(no workers was on the road as it was the wkend) i got pulled over by a cop who said i was doing 105 in a 80 zone... so i got a "on the spot fine" but since im a NSW license holder and I live in NSW, my question is do i still need to pay that fine? (I mean what can they do?)
cheers for any info |

I believe all the states except WA have mutual recognition of speeding fines which means you also loose the points. I suspect not paying a Vic fine will have the same consequences as not paying a NSW fine. ie a summons and a visit to court and extra cost.

You could be correct. I guess its up to the Vic authorities to pass the information onto the NSW RTA. Maybe non payment of the fine might make them more likely to forward the info. I would get legal advice if you cannot afford to loose the points.

No the dermit point system has recently been centralised and you WILL lose points when you occur them interstate... if you lose 3 points in VIC = 3 points in NSW or QLD.

A lot of my friends are on interstate licence and no use when speeding. The best is an international licence. Me want to get one . Then you only have fines. If you don't pay the fines, you will get to go through court system. I challenge a fine and just write to them. I don't want them overturn (I was doing 129 in 100 zone), but I just want to delay the one month suspension when my younger daughter was born...

Taka is correct. You'll lose the demerit points no matter what state you're from, and if you don't pay the fine it will double, then triple in value and then become a warrant.

That is why I advise people coming to VIC events to drive slowly... coz our limit is 3 kmh over the speed limit.. it is not a lot in the highway I can tell you.

WTF omfg are you for real taka??? thats screwed!
ok find this on this site http://trafficlaw.com.au/speeding.fines.html i wasnt doing 40km/h over ofcoz... Q. I was caught speeding in Victoria at 40kmh over the speed limit. Will my NSW/UK driver's licence be affected? Your interstate or overseas licence can not be suspended by any Victorian law or authority. However, your right to drive in Victoria will be suspended for 6 months, however you may want to seek legal advice about your particular circumstances because the law can be ambiguous in this area. Interstate licence holders may find that their local licencing authority has the power to suspend their interstate drivers licence if they become disqualified from driving in Victoria. Driving during a period of suspension or disqualification is an offence punishable by imprisonment. Victorian law can not prevent you from using a non-Victorian licence in other states, i.e. Victoria can not stop you using your NSW or UK licence in other states. seems like im still ok...

I dont think an International Licence will help you Taka as under the rules, it is not a stand alone driving permit and must be supported with a proper driving licence from whereever, so If you get knicked and your supporting document is a Aussie licence, you are buggered because you should not be driving on an International Licence in the first place if you hold a local licence for the country you are driving in.

ok find this on this site http://trafficlaw.com.au/speeding.fines.html i wasnt doing 40km/h over ofcoz...) This isn't a government site and I wouldn't count on it being correct. Also it doesn't give any advice on what the NSW RTA may do...only what the VIC Govt can do. The loss of points for an interstate offense is relatively new. The best way to be sure is to get legal advice but that makes it more expensive again! It will be interesting to see what happens when you ignore it. Very courageous! We all want to know what happens.

I got fined in vic last year and paid the fine but never lost the points off my NSW licence. I can say it beacuse I've already lost my licence so they can't take it away again!

I think the points will eventually catch up. I got fined a few times down here in Tassie and for a long time lost no points on my NSW licence. Then all of a sudden I had 9 points go up in a puff of smoke, so I have only 3 pts left (
