Hey iCarbon, what's your opinion on hood pins? Do you think us guys that rarely go above 120+ need them? How strong is the latch on the hoods?

So my tracking says: "RECOVERED AT DESTINATION"

Will it be here soon after?

I'm not sure if I should get VACC or the single-sided carbon fiber hood. I really don't want any hood pins on my car as it spoils the look and someone has already commented that the single-sided hood is flimsy. Not sure what to do, I'll be painting mine so VACC might be the way to go. Thoughts anyone?

While I have a different CF hood, I was told by multiple reliable sources an vendors that pins are not necessary unless you track the car or plan to go 120+ mph regularly. From experience, I notice my hood flexing a tiny bit as I approach triple digits, so you paranoid people might wanna put them on. But then again, the stock hood raises and flexes at 120+ mph and it doesn't require pins..

Nice to know! on my 93' SI I had a single sided cf hood from Fiber Images and though I did notice a little flex towards triple digit speeds it held just fine. With my 1 I don't regularly auto x / drag so I think I will be fine without pins and when I do get my iCarbon hood I plan on getting a double sided version.

I must admit, DAMN THE HOOD IS NICE! Light, gorgeous, and def very well made. The paint shops guys told me that the hood looked really good. Well, its getting prepped for paint (AW). Thinking about leaving the vent area CF, because the cut out is perfect, but dunno yet... Again, the hood is niceeeee, sure nice if someone can photochop the hood to white with the vents CF left on... this is for the smaller vent hood..

It means its at the local station (closest one to your residency/business)... Depending on the "local station" it can take a day or two or three...

That's my preference but with these issues of the hood flying off I might go with VACC because it's closer to stock weight. I'm not keen for hood pins.

I have dragged my car before and plan to do a lot more in the future so it's really important to me. Triple digits is not really that fast (even if it is in miles) so i really need something secure.

When I get my hood I will definitely be painting it white and leaving the M3 vents either in carbon or painting them a gloss black for sure. My car is AW and I think this is the only way to go.

Painting it white is a no brain-er for me. However, the m3 vents are surrounded by a smaller indentation w/ definitive lines perfect IMO for leaving it CF but then again you never know... and its safer to go all white with just the vents black...

since it looks like you're the first black car with it installed unpainted, could you take some higher quality pics at a distance and close up so us with black 1ers can get a feel of what it looks like? i'm still on the fence about leaving it unpainted...
