Gas evaporation?
Hey guys. Back in August-ish i put my 1M in storage (live in AZ, so I don't drive it during the summer months). The garage admittedly was pretty hot for a few months before the recent cool down. i just took the car out for a drive (first time since August) and i swear the gas gauge has moved a tiny bit down. i don't see any leaks in the garage, and i looked under the car after driving it and didnt notice anything. Does gas evaporate a bit? if there is a leak it must be super slow, and i'm not exactly sure where to look.

Not normally. Cars have evaporative controls to let the gas expand and so it doesn't go into the atmosphere. They have little expansion tanks for this. It's possible under pressure a little bit might end up in the evaporative system but not enough to move the gauge. When the car is moving around the gauge doesn't move immediately. It's possible it was slightly higher when you drove it in because you were driving it around. Once it settled for a few weeks, it dropped to the perfectly still level which is slightly lower than when the car is moving. Just a shot in the dark!

just before i put it in storage there was an issue with the DMTL pump and charcoal canister. they said the dealer said the canister was flooded so they replaced the dmtl and the charcoal canister. im wonder if there is an issue with the fuel tank itself. i didnt get a good look under the car, but i didn't see any noticeable leaks. im performing an oil change next week and will take a closer look....but im afraid of the cost to replace a fuel tank!
