Joined the 1-Family!!!

After about a month into my search, I can finally say I am a proud owner of a 135i! Really stoked!!!

Patience paid off, got behind the wheel of a car I just loved, had all the options I cared for, and none that I didn't.

Here are the details:
2008 135i Sparkling Graphite Metallic
6-spd manual, Dark Poplar Wood Trim
Options: Sport, Black Boston Leather, Heated Seats, Tire+Rim protection warranty (recon it would come in handy with these low profile tires).
2,600 miles, mint condition, adult owner, properly broken into, never tracked, original 1-series commemorative edition book and all paperwork/service history.

I took some pics over the weekend which you can find under my album (here are a few teasers). I have an Audi RS4 and wanted to have an additional daily fun toy (though I seldom drive to work), something I can toss around the city (and track of course), be better on gas, but not at the point it is a slow econo soap-dish. Natural finalists included the Mini Cooper JCW and VW GTI: the former lost on price ($36K+ after a few minor options!!!), and the latter lost on several grounds, mostly because they are everywhere, and a new one is coming later in the year. At the end of the day the 135i shouldn't even be considered a competitor of the two others I mentioned, it is really in a league of its own. I just sold a heavily modded E39 M5 (had everything short of forced induction), so despite the RS4 being a venerable replacement of the Beast, I was still missing the blue and white propeller too much. I figure the 135i is a good tribute to the departed Beast!

What also won me in this car is it's mod-ibility. A simple flash will provide more gains than the myriad of mods I had on the ///M5 (and RS4) - learned my lesson the hard (and pricey) way that the gains to a naturally aspirated car are really limited (short of a S/Cer or Turbo).

So let the modding begin!!!

Meaning no high revving in first 1500 miles, etc. Probably less of an issue with the 135i, but in my ///M5 and RS4 (high strung N/A engines), redlining the car in it's first 1500 miles was the difference between having engine issues down the line (premature cylinder wear, higher chance for vanos failures, abnormal oil consumption, etc.) or not...

BTW, this is what BMW says now for it's non ///M cars:

SG? Sheesh! Are you not aware how hard SG can be to maintain? You might as well have gotten JB or BSM, considering how prone SG can be to swirls and just general difficulty in upkeep.

j/k. Saw your original thread.

After Le Mans blue, SG is my personal favorite color for the 'little' one.

Good snag.

how much did you pay? this is what i plan on doing as well. buying a like-new 135i for less coinage than a brand new one.

Thx Mike! Yeah, dark colors are tough to maintain, but this one was immaculate and I know I will continue to keep it as such (just need to apply a lot more elbow grease than normal!) LOL Also, being it a 2008-only color, I felt this Year-1-Of-1 specimen would be quite rare over the years.

First thing I will be looking for is a car cover. Will ask some folks here what their experience is. Car is in a heated garage 24/7 but it is dusty as it is within a building (and appropriate I have the first 2 spots! but the bad thing is a lot of dust is generated by traffic coming and going). So even after a car wash and a Quick Detailer spray, within a day you can see the dust particles. I have a Covercraft FormFit for my RS, but sadly checking on the website Covercraft doesn't offer it for the 1-series

Well over $10K less than the first owner paid, a mere 8 months and 2K miles ago...

I had to jump on it as it was a great deal, I was about to go to Manheim where a friend is a dealer and for a small fee would buy one for me (with me present). But the average price for 135i's is $32.5K (in AVG condition) and that is usually for cars with 6-8K on the clock (mine has 2.6K), I did better than that for a car that is mint, plus being able to meet the owner and getting the full history was worth even if I had to pay a premium (all you get at Manheim is a CarFax report, and often things may be missing their, especially if prior owner never went through insurance company claims).

All you need now is a blue rotating light for the dash to complete the Police accessories!

J/K congrats

Heh heh, thx. I also have a wallet with the insignia Officer's Family, def helps (think of it as a get-out-of-jail card free if you get checked by the 'right' patrolman). Helps me in most cases when approached why front licence plate is not installed
