Met a fellow 1M owner at Eastern Creek yesterday. He informed me that he is on his 3rd set of front rotors. After completing a Bathurst track day , his front rotors where that warped ,that he had to replace, and luckily his dealership replaced under warranty.

Then after completing in a burrows track day, the front rotors had to be replaced again.

He told me BMW told him it was a common thing with the rotors on a M3 /M1 after a track day.

Exactly. First time I have heard of them going so quickly. He only has 3200 kms on the car.

Lucky for him , he has a understanding service guy at BMW, and have replaced the rotors both times under warranty.

Warping means changing shape under heat. Nothing to do with wear and tear. Right?

Seriously how can that happen in a good rotor?

Is he trying to do a lot of 200kmh to 0

Advice: Stop riding on brakes and get on with it!

That's exactly what my reply to him was. Have you been slamming the brakes on at 200km plus at the end of conrad straight.

He denied that he was harder than normal on the brakes than any other car at a track day.

So what if he was, even on a short track your gonna hit 200 along the main straight and slam on the brakes.... I thought these M's were meant to be track cars????

Where was it doing 200? I clocked 210 in my GTR down the main straight (its 900m long)

(V8 supercars hit 220).

Making no assumptions about your friend and his knowledge but is he cooling his brakes down properly? And he mustn't apply the handbrake when stopped or he can hot spot his rears and possibly warp them.
Also, is it possible that he is pitting straight after high speed down conrod when his brakes are probably still red hot? Or pitting without a cool down lap?
Also again, you can get a hot spot where the pads sit near the disc, even with the brakes off, that's why you should roll your car, ( in neutral engine off of course ), for while in the pits.
I've had no issues with my rotors and I am pretty hard on brakes. Have had the pedal go soft though, that's when I know it's time to ease up a little and let the fluid cool. I must change to a better fluid one of these days.

Fair enough Gazz, but I am only relaying what he told me.. I only just met him that day at EC and started chatting, as we both had VO 1M's parked side by side in the pits carpark.

He was one of the most compentant drivers on the day and handled all the courses with the most skill as he had numerous track days under his belt, with either his 1M or M3 that he owns..

So I assumed his war stories where gospel..

I guess Porsche can get away with it but not a BM? I mean having a VO car is pretty bold so why not a bit of a contrast on a car? I won't do it, many due to cost, no actually thats a porky (as my wheels on the BSM are being painted black) I just like subtle I guess. Funny, there's a GT3 like the one one above but in grey in Canberra for sale, the owner got rid of all of the red stuff, painted the wheels silver and even painted the roll cage in black, kinda the opposite to most modders. I do like it better toned down anyway.

Just having some fun, I do like the wheels irrespective
