1M autox in STU?

Has anyone successfully campaigned a 1M in STU yet? (Given my inability to find anything in a search I suppose I should ask if it's even legal in STU.)

I am about to build one up for some local/regional autox fun and thought it would be a good class to target since it allows many of the brake and suspension changes I would want to make for track days as well.

If so, I would love some baseline set-up tips.

It's not listed as eligible for the class so unless it was classed through the year in one of the Fastracks, it wouldn't be legal. However, if it was, there might be some hope for it, I would imagine you can fit the class legal 285s on all four corners which are an absolute must for the class (and the reason the 135 is not a good bet for the class).

The 350Z and the Vette still have dramatically superior front suspensions and about the same power levels, and will be much cheaper to prep (price out an LSD for your 1M which is an absolute must have - not even worth doing anything else if you are not going to do this) though.

I had a quick look through the car classing pdf at https://www.scca.com/pages/solo-cars-and-rules and I'm wondering what this "catch-all" rule is under STU classing:

“Catch-all”:
Sedans & Coupes NOC (nonsports-car-based;
4-seat
minimum; over 5.1L normally
aspirated or 2.0L to 3.1L
forced induction)

If it means what I think it does, which is any car that meets that qualification gets put into that category if it's not specifically listed anywhere else, then I think it's possible that 1M can be in STU. The OP probably would want to clarify that with somebody more knowledgeable about the rules than me before making any plans though.

If it's not listed, it is not classed.

Unlike street classing, where SCCA shall have a class for the 1M, that does not mean the same for ST.

You'll have to right a letter to the SEB requesting classing for the 1M. Unfortunately probably won't get granted, because of the low production amount of the car, it'll probably never see ST trim

I had assumed it would fall under this catch-all as well.

When I looked closer at the rules, there's this clause at the beginning:

To use the catch-alls at the end of the specific car classes in Appendix A,
start from the last class in the category and work up the classes until a
class is found. Such unclassified cars will not be eligible for Solo®
National Tours or the Solo® National Championships.

So it seems like the catch all is just for regional events and not for any of the national events.

Good catch. That would likely explain the scarcity of prior info!

For the record - if they specifically classed this car, I think either of it or the M2 could be competitive in STU... I sent a letter this morning. If they let the 1M into the class I might be tempted to transfer some parts from my 128i and move "up"...
