ANDRA regs

Mr Blonde posted up the ANDRA regs. They are good info but only applicable if you are running on an ANDRA licence or your car runs faster than 11 seconds.

At a "test n tune" meet, I can assure you you will be fine with a normal street registered car such as we have here. Forget about tail shaft loops, 4-point harnesses etc.

You just need a helmet (normal M/C helmet with Australian Standard AS1698 sticker), long sleeves (a LS t-shirt is fine), long pants (jeans are fine) and enclosed shoes.

There is minimal to no scrutineering of late model cars. Just turn up and have a go.

More info is here:

Cad, it totally depends on which track you are at. Willowbank is the best track in Australia for street cars in my opinion and the attitude of the track officials is far superior to WSID which is my local track.

My M Coupe is street legal and has ANDRA tech for SS/BB and when I go to the regular Wednesday night street meets I get all sorts of stupid stuff like:

"Only street registered cars can compete tonight." Great, here's my rego papers and licence plates.

"Your car runs over 140 MPH so you need to be seen to deploy your 'chute on every pass." Great, please advise where my tender vehicle should line up to tow my car back to the pit area.

"You cannot have any pit crew on the racing surface". Great can you just wait a bit while I get out of my six point harness and arm restraints, remove my race gloves and get out of my vehicle, remove the pin from my 'chute and get back in again. Oh and can you please come over and strap me back in again?

"This is a turbocharged vehicle, do you have two intersecting bolts in the dump pipe to protect officials?" Sure I do, and the full length dual exhaust that exits from the rear of the vehicle might prove an obstacle for debris too.

"This is a turbocharged and fuel injected vehicle, how can you prove there is no launch control device fitted?" Please advise the correct carbies to fit to my BMW inline six turbocharged engine.

The most fun I've had was in scrutineering before racing where the WSID tech staffer wanted me to deploy my 'chute to prove it was packed properly in the shed. If you've ever packed a 'chute you'd know why this is retarded.

Great post.

If you ever come to Willowbank, be sure to let us know.

Yes, and thanks. I was only referring to my local track. I guess we're spoilt.

I'm a maybe for this. Keep an eye out for the "red dot" from the police radar if you do head out that way. They often set up on the highway east of Willowbank.

Yeah I see red dots all the time, mostly from the vans on the side of the road, but one day I saw one flashing inside a car on the dash while it was parked at the shops...

Heard on the radio this morning that Willowbank is holding a race meet this weekend so I pretty sure it might be quite busy tomorrow with teams testing. Sure you guys still want to go?

Oh true... If this is the case I wouldn't mind holding off for the next one in a couple weeks especially if more of us can make it. At this stage it looks like only Michael and I are confirmed. Gives me time to sort out buying a helmet too.

I'd much rather go on a quiet night than a busy one. More runs, less people watching me fluff the start and gearchanges... We should go out while the air's still coolish though.

I suggest for beginners you click on the link in my sig for my drag racing 101 hints and tips. It's also a good idea to go out and watch a street meet to understand how it all works before your first race meeting.

I agree I'd like to do this before it gets too warm as our cars suffer heatsoak quite a lot. I'm leaning towards rainchecking this event for another 2 weeks. I'd like as many of us to attend as possible and I also want to run on quiet night so I can squeeze in as many passes as possible.

Darn right they do. My best pass the last time I went out was the first and they progressively got worse and worse the more runs I did.

I tend to lose interest after about four runs.

Shouldn't be too hard to beat your PB mate

One of my mates experienced the same thing. He progressively got worse although he felt like he was launching a lot better. Do many people turn off their cars between runs to let their car cool down?

No worries mate. I think it's best if we leave it for another 2 weeks and make it official. There's going to be a few BMW's

OT - I also have your jack pad adaptor which I still have to give you too

My advice, don't worry too much about heat soak. Once you've made a pass you then line up in the staging lanes. If Willowbank is anything like WSID it's an hour between runs.

You definitely switch off your engine after you've lined up in staging to allow it to cool off. You can open your bonnet and some use bags of ice.

A worthwhile approach is to just work on improving your short time all night, and let the ET and trap speed take care of themselves.

I might consider doing this as a oncer out of interest just to see how wide the gap is between 125i and 135i, assuming someone runs with a stock manual 135i on the same night...

Like Richie, I've also run before many moons ago in a very slooow FTO

I'd be really appreciative too if I could borrow a helmet as I would only run once as I don't plan to make any significant power mods in the future to drop times. Coupla cases of n/a beverages in it for someone as a reward
