Infotainment Software / Nav Updates

Hello all,

Just wondering if anybody has done a software update to the nav/infortainment system? I was checking the BMW upgrade site and it says there are no upgrades available for my 1M. Well, specifically it doesn't recognize my VIN.

Has anyone done an update, and if so how? Or did the dealer do it for you?

On a separate but related note - does anybody know (or think) it's worthwhile to update the nav maps? My service advisor said it was hard-drive based and would cost about $300... also, if there's going to be a 2015 update, I'd probably wait for the latest database. Does anyone know the cycle that BMW follows to release updates?

Thanks!

The BMW map system is pretty bad compared to almost anything else. The US map system must be a Euro version badly translated, as it use phrases like "In 900 ft. bear Right...", and "Bear Left" when it means "Turn Left".
And dealers charging several hundred for a map upgrade is obscene, when much better maps from Garmin can be updated for $40, or free from Google Maps.
A bit of searching will locate options for BMW map updates, and the FSC code needed to install them, for around $50.

You can order the maps right from BMW.com. $200, they ship you a thumb drive and you just plug it in. They release a new version every year.

Or contact dracon.

Garage List
I recently updated to 2014 maps via the dealer. I was getting tired of the maps being so out of date. The process is quite involved with three dvds that need to be inserted in order each time you drive until the update is complete. The maps are much more accurate now.

I have also downloaded the latest softwear update straight to the car but have not noticed any appreciable difference.

I did enquire about this earlier in the year but only the 2013 maps were available then.

Could I ask how much it cost Stu? PM if you prefer.

I'm in sandy springs but work in buckhead. Would love to meet up with some fellow 1M owners

Does this change just the maps or the appearance of the other unit based features as well?
