I am not sure. Someone would have to verify, but from what Tom is saying it is just a coding issue, not a new FRW.

Not really sure, there is a rather large thread on e90Post filled with problems on the Depo retrofits, I'd simply stick with OEM projectors if possible.

BMW recommends a FRM3 on the LCI 3-series upgrade as well - it's simply not required when using an autologic, the vehicles are nearly identical in lighting.

FRM2 coding is what we recommend as "soft" coding - this can be overwritten if the FRM is programmed at the dealership (not common). FRM3 module + coding (the one BMW is recommending) is permanent and will not be overwritten from dealer visits.

Not all dealer visits result in FRM programming, I wouldn't worry about it if keeping the FRM2 module.

I tried checking just in case at my dealer with the part numbers and they said they didn't exsist. I know this isn't accuarate since some of you have ordered these already.

How much did each tail cost you and where did you get it from?

If the EPC ( parts data base) at the dealer hasent been updated then the guy at the other end of the phone will say " part # no good"

dealers dont like to enter in manual #'s ( like when you say...please order me this # ) because if the number turns out to be an output shaft ( enter sarcasim) then they are on the hook.

some dealers update faster then others..

just my .02

edit !!!!

the 427 and 428 LCI tail lamps MSRP in US for 189.63 each There are NONE available in the US, but there are some in Germany.... Technically a dealer in the us could order these and you would see them in 8 to 12 days ... but usless without adaptor cable ( see note below)

The adaptor cable has no price yet in the system, and it is not shown available ANYWHERE !!!!! >>> this means at this point in time in the world, it cant be had..

Hope this helps..

Nice car, buddy. At first I thought you had retrofited the '12 lights to your 1er. Then I realized you HAVE a 2012.

I still waiting for someone to post the first DIY for these LED tails. Hint, HINT!

I know it's a little OT,but does anyone know if the new Headlights with the Brow can be retrofitted on our older cars ? I'm sure it would need to be coded,i'm just curious if it fits the bumper, hood, etc.

From the looks of it YES. But is the brow really worth an additional 900$ + per light??? If you have functional xenons then I would save my money. It only makes somewhat sense for a halogen guy to upgrade because they come with xenons.

My 2 cents!

Are you asking about the front or rear LED's?

In my post above... I was talking about the rear LED lights will require new footwell modules AND coding. THAT is what my local BMW dealer showed me in the new parts data base. For late model cars you only need an adpator cable to make the new LED tails to work.

Some people here have said that as long as your car HAS a footwell module... the new LED's will just plug in a work.

I think we all are waiting for someone to step up to the plate and see IF that is true or not. So far no one has posted pics of their install or DIY or new LED tails. We are all awaiting.

Im am talking about the rear led lights and according to the seller Ale... no modules needed just coding with autologic. I just want to confirm that with the seller that this coding was with an 08 model.

Already replaced...

Hi,

I'm new on this board.
I already replaced the tail lights.
It's a 09/2010 118d E82 (german specs; Xenon). It was like plug&play - unfortunately I ordered the adaptor Cable, too. Using this cale, the tail indicators doesn't work anymore. It seems, the Cable changes the pins - so the inicators don't get any power.
Alsoyouwill get two more adaptor cables (y-cable) in this package, they complete useless. I try to take some Pictures of it.
So in conclusion:
Cars after 09/2010 are able to use the same origin cables and don't Need any coding or new FRM.

Bye& have a nice day.
Phil

EDIT:
This is the look of the high tail lights:
http://img140.imageshack.us/i/lcitaillights.jpg/

And this are the adaptor cables:
http://img192.imageshack.us/i/adaptorcables.jpg/

The below two cables (Y-cables) are IMHO useless, I can't find any possibility to connect the smaller ones.

I hope I can help you.

Hallo HZ...

Hi Dackel,

no problem to repost my car's picture. Thank you for your compliment.
The part numbers are right - I ordered the tail lights and even the adaptor cable. As I mentioned, I think you can save the cable, when you car is a post 09/09 built cars.

After 09/09 it is plug & play. For cars built before 09/09 BMW says you need new a new footwell module and coding.

Some people(venders) have said no new modules but you need coding. I think we will have to see who will be first with a pre 09/09 car to see what is really needed.

Hey... HZ... will you be coming to the 1er Forum meeting at BMW' Welt in a few weeks? I will be there! May 21st - mark your calendar!!!

Would it not be that you don't need coding if you've currently got LED rears and you would need coding if you haven't as Phil says he has xenons and therefore would've had LEDs already.

Probably where the adaptor cable comes in too.
