more engine shots from the Welt...

A few days ago I went back to the Welt again. I realized that inside that double cone there is a downstairs. So… I went to go see whats down there and I found a few interesting engine displays.

Thanks for the pics. I learnt how to tell the difference between a forged and cast crankshaft now by sight. I also read that if you hit a forged crank with a hammer it should ring like a bell but a cast will have a dull thud sound.

This has been hashed and rehashed many times over. N54 is forged, N55 is not(its cast). BMW wanted to lower the cost of the N54 power plant and that's how we got the N55. But the N55 has more power down low and better fuel economy. Just like the B48 is now the new king of inline sixes.

Man I love this type of stuff. Could look at it all day. I wish they had put more of the intake portion (cams/valves) on the N54 though. Still very cool.
