I know their increasingly becoming hard to find here in the US. ECS and Turner Motorsports (Which I think are owned by the same people now) seem to have it in stock.

Your best bet might be the local BMW dealer? Unless you can find one for sale locally (check the regional section of the forums). Part # is 18-10-2-208-806

Welded shut the pipe with the 3 large holes and the pipe with the perforated smaller holes. The car sounds amazing! So good under load with a nice mellow tone all around.

N55, stock downpipes, stock resonator. PPK tune.

There is more bass down in the 1-3K RPM but nothing I would consider droning. Best bang for the buck mod on this car.

I'm considering adding the PE y-pipe to delete the resonator. Anyone else running that with the PE modded muffler but stock downpipes on a N55?

For those referencing this thread, I wanted to mention that the N54 muffler not only has the holes in these two pipes in the center section, but it also has perforations in both pipes in the first y-section of the muffler, so this mod won't likely work as well. So, the N54 and N55 mufflers are different, and most of this thread is in reference to the N55 muffler. You'd have to cut open two chambers of the N54 muffler to get the same effect.

I would also like to add a tidbit.

If anyone is here for an E84 X1 N55, our mufflers are even more different. I'll attach a photo instead of trying to explain it.

Thanks for posting this. I recently put an E82 N55 muffler on my E84 N55 and it sounds completely different. I could see the perforated section right on the inlet to the muffler, but damn that's completely different. Interesting that they're almost identical on the outside.

It is very cool that there are people who can come up with something with their own hands. Thank you, you can try with your exhaust like that.

I paid just under $100, but if you have access to a welder you could do this for dirt cheap.
Old thread, but doing research now. This is the most demonstrative of all I've seen so far. Any drone at normal rpms?

Bumping an old thread but I'm new to my 135i and am looking for exhaust choices. This sounds like an interesting option to try.

But I need to confirm, doesn't closing the holes (big and small) on both pipes inside the muffler essentially deletes the muffler? This "OEM PE" mod is basically a straight pipe setup right?

Am I missing something here?

Real pe exhaust has one straight pipe and one baffled pipe + deleted resonator. I've had both the pe mod and the actual oe and they sound 90% the same.

Some people are closing both pipes.

I see, so this PE mod with both pipes closed should have roughly the same sound volume as any other straight pipe axelback be it a Berk Race, or AFE, or welded pipes right? It's just hard to judge volume from videos.

And the real PE exhaust should have roughly the same sound volume as the muffler "bypass" in this thread: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1221654
or this: https://bestmufflers.com/bshop/Custo...dification.htm
Correct?

Slightly quiter because the muffler would still dampen the sound.

I suggest catless + pe it's by far the best sounding setup.

Had this PE mod done today. I only had the three big holes closed up and left the small perforated pipe alone. Everything else stock: stock downpipe, stock mid pipe resonator, and the exhaust valve still plugged in.

Turns out this is a very tame volume increase. Just enough to finally hear the exhaust but not at all obnoxious. I was worried that it might be too loud but it's very very civilized. I may even delete the resonator in the future. Leaving the valve in place, the car is basically stock during gentle driving. But give it some hard throttle and the valve opens up and the exhaust sings. I can even hear a little bit of burbles and pops now. I may try the "golf-tee" mod in the future to keep the exhaust valve open all the time.

Anyway, thanks to the OP and all that contributed to this thread. It's a great alternative to aftermarket axelbacks and catless downpipes.

You need the resonator delete to do a proper pe, also the proper pe has a valve delete so do the golf tee

I know. I was worried it might be too obnoxiously loud so I decided to make changes incrementally. Might try golf-tee mod next, then maybe eventually resonator delete. So far, I'm satisfied with the extra volume. And I like that I can fly under the radar and act stock if I drive gently and keep the valve closed.

Golf tee is easy to do, can just unplug a cable in the trunk (peel back the lefthand carpet and unplug it). Youtube tutorial somehwere.

You should do catless since you also live in canada, I just drilled mine out lol and it sounds amazing and is still suprisingly quiet.
