So, just take your car to the dealer and make that complaint. As long as you get a good tech that follows bulletins you should get the new software.
Thanks man! I've been waiting for this day. Now I hope it's actually an update for the 6MT too. This probably pretty much takes us back to what our cars were like when new.

You may be out of luck for the 6MT. Bulletin only shows that it's applicable for the DCT equipped cars.

It's not a complicated process, but it most surely cannot be done accidently, or for free. If it could, I would have done it with my last car
Then how did OP get all the new popping and crackling sounds? It does sound a lot like PPK. Did the new sounds come from the software update, or is it possible that it came from his software update in combination with his aftermarket add-ons? He DID say the sounds came after his software update, and since he didn't mention it, I'd assume his aftermarket add-ons were already in place when he got the update. What else could it be?

Wow, the same thing happened to me. I just had my car serviced (135i DCT), and right when I drove away from the dealer I knew something felt different. I didn't mention anything about lag or software updates.

The pedal was definitely more responsive. I looked at my invoice sheet and it had my car listed as a 135is?!

Immediately I wondered if they somehow gave me the 135is tune instead. I'll see how it sounds at WOT.

If your referring that your car comes up on the front page of the repair order as a 135is, that's all user defined and doesn't come from the key read. You could write in M3 and it wouldn't matter. Some dealerships still use "is" to signify that it's a coupe believe it or not.

I'm sure the programming changed the software in the DME, but it's not possible to get the PPK for free. Trust me. I've tried.

Would late build models be just as susceptible to this?

This is software change only. All other mods have been in place for a long time. The only thing I've changed semi-recently is that I went back to stock muffler. Kinda wish I wouldn't have now..

And could you please check if there is anything for the good ole 6MT? The throttle response is bad and if there was really a SW update that would even get me the pops n burbles, I would be a happy, happy man.

There is nothing for the 6MT cars. The software update IS the reason why your throttle response is so bad! BMW gives us new SW that keeps the wastegates open until 3,500 rpms and the anti-tuner sw which makes tunes harder to run/work. Only solution is the PPK or a real SW tune.

I bought like that. And I'd love the PPK (and other PP parts) but it's ridiculous to pay BMW to basically repair our engines.

So I've read bmw will update your software w/out notice or request?

I talked to my advisor today about getting updates.
he said even if there is an outstanding update he wouldn't recommend it unless it was really needed/last resource.
He said his las customer who requested it had his dme crash and had to be replaced.

Sounds like bullshit to me!
Do I need to talk to a different SA? What's the standard procedure here?

I am waiting for swagon to find out if the update can be used on non-dct.

I guess what I meant was do you think you would've gotten the same sounds without your mods? In other words do you think that the same software update would sound the same on a stock 135i?

Yes, so far so good on that issue as well. It had been getting pretty bad there over the last few weeks.. It's a world of improvement.

I have that all the time. Pull up to a stop and the engine revs. Nice to know the 40 miles the dealer put on my car the last time I had it in the shop no one noticed it.

Anyone have the actual printout if SIB 12-15-14 and the release date?
