Hey, that's my vid! I haven't been around here at all lately, and I've actually considered trading my 1 in on something else, as I get bored easily. But every time I drive with the shifter over in manual mode, and get those pops/gurgles... I just can't see myself selling this car. The sound is incredible!

No. I did a normal software update and magically got the noises. Seems I'm the only one.

Do it.
Do it. I have the PE with Dinan tune and it sounds great. It's even better driving next to Jersey barriers on the highway where it gets bounced back at you. You will find yourself driving with the windows down and heat blasting in the cold weather just to listen to it.

I have the PE and recently got the Dinan S2 tune over my PPK and all my pops and crackles are still there. I drive around with the windows down to hear the sound as well but have the A/C on to beat the heat in the California summer. I know I'm an energy waster but don't really care. Enjoying the Dinan tune BTW.

I get the pops and gurgles on my 135 without PE or any software. Surely I can't be the only one.
It tends to happen a lot more at low RPM when I just ease of the accelerator. If I accelerate and leave it in gear where you would normally upshift, then just let off and tickle the throttle a little, it pops and bangs a LOT. Does anyone else experience the same with a stock exhaust? |

Also... IF your car were to get a sw update from any BMW dealer... chances are your pops would be gone and also your snappy throttle response would be dead. Dack

At first BMW rolled out a SW update/patch to help prolong the HPFP's. Then they rolled out the WG and noisy injector update. That is when some of us noticed a detune in power and throttle response. But many owners could not feel the detune. I could. The easiest way is how the engine sounds at idle. IF it idles fairly quietly... chances are you have the WG fix. Also... the LPFP will pre-prime the system when you unlock the doors - once the car has been asleep(locked). I bet your car doesn't cycle the LPFP in the tank when you unlock the car right? This means(probably) that your car has the original sw. Don't let a dealer flash your car!! If they do you will loose the throttle response and pops. But the engine will idle smoother and quieter. But it will be no more the rocket our cars were when they left the factory in Leipzig. Dack

Noted. Thanks for the heads up. The WG rattle is annoying and a bit embarrassing and it would be nice to get rid of it.
I'll be installing my JB4 in the next couple of days. Hopefully that will get rid of it. |

Love the sound of my exhaust after PPK! Sound is addicting and has resulted in significantly more stops to the gas pump...

That's more than two words. Haha!
I'd tell you how many more but I can't count past two. I agree with you though... N55, PPK, and PE make AWESOME exhaust sounds!

I personally think it does but someone with that set-up, or someone that knows for sure needs to chime in.

FWIW, MHD flash now has an overrun "pops and burbles" suite of settings. Can set different lengths (1-5 seconds) and intensities (soft to hard) with many different levels in between. AT drivers can even specify different settings for their Base and Sport modes.
Really impressive. Works equally well for Standalone and Back-end flashes.

I just flashed the PPK. The pops and burbles the PPK adds are more than just for noise. I don't care if people think its ricey or tacky. They are the result of fuel continuing to be burnt while off throttle. Therefore, resulting in better throttle response. It is a noticeable improvement.
If you think the burbles are too much then flash back to stock or short shift the car so you don't have to let off throttle so much! |

N55 sounds better then a N54? Hmm never heard that one before.. Sorry but after owning 3 n54's and two n55's I would never trade away a n54 for a 55..
