Did you do a nitrogen leak test? That got rid of my 1-3 sec delay. That was the only symptom of the leak.

Is there anyway to tell if you have this software update already? I don't know when this update came out but I'd presume mine has it?

I have not. I can look into that.

I'm out of warranty. So, getting software updates or having it even looked at will probably require a few hundred dollars unless there's some bay area BMW dealer that is rather friendly about such things. Hopefully they don't screw up my car in the process either. Ugh.

My delay was "fixed" but came back. Unexpectedly after taking advantage of the Dinan flash sale, my throttle delay was fixed and has stayed that way.

bought a 2013is. The throttle response and lags was horrendous. Sent it in to BMW dealer 2 weeks ago, I did the Dinan and they upgraded the software. I drove out and 10 ,inutes later drove back in and said nothing done its still same.

They kept for 2 days returned it and said " thats how the car drives. I got the supervisor nd went for a drive, exactly 13 mins later he got a shocked when it resisted and hesitated when I was cornering from a stop sign at 10 miles per hr said "Gosh lets drive back..

Got my attorney involved with all the issues I have had and the danger they have put me in to accept poor throttle response, hesitatio whist cornering, spurting and lagging whilst in slow traffic etc etc.

The 135i have been there for a week now. BMW is involved and I was given a new 2 series loaner loaded. I will definitely ask them to take car back if issues not resolve as it is a dangerous machinery. Spoke to my attorney and he may accept my case to resolve as he sees it as an issue that Stops me enjoying my ride and it is an inherently dangerous machine. It has 21000 miles on it.

Will keep posted.

LATEST:
It has been 14 days car is still with BMW. BMW engineer from head office is checking it now.

ok... im a recent 135i owner dct mind you, and im noticing around 3rd gear the rpms climb but the car doesn't seem to accelerate as the rpms climb.. almost like clutch slippage on a manual...the car doesn't completely stand still.. its just not as responsive as 2nd ,4th etc
would this be a dct hardware issue or software issue??
Im not mechanically inclined with auto engines so bare with me..
thanks guys

I have this in my car as well - but only in auto mode. In auto mode the gearbox can only react to what you've done so it'll definitely ride like shit.

In manual mode (DTC fully off, sport on), if I'm in second gear and slowing from say 40mph -> 10mph so I can creep through a roundabout I find that as I come down to 20 mph or and I'll pull (-) for 1st gear the display will change from "M2" and show M1" but the car is STILL in second gear. When I actually lift my foot off the brake pedal and hit the gas, I can hear the throttle blip - the car THEN downshifts and take off.

I'm pretty sure this is expected behaviour? It only happens when it thinks you're expecting to come to a complete stop (i.e. fairly hard braking).

Additionally in Auto mode (DTC full on, sport off) and slowing to a crawl or near stop just before a roundabout to check for traffic, I can make the car take off VERY smoothly. But when I give it to my other half to drive (who is a VERY competent driver, she isn't your average "oh my god where are the wipers" kind of person), the car leaps forth since she gives it too much gas. Definitely not "smooth" by and definition of the word.

None of these things really bother me once you learn what they are, when they happen and how to avoid them. Is there anyone in NZ with a busted car? I'm really keen to get my paws on one (and have them drive mine) to see if this really is some sort of design fault or if there is something wrong with the car. I'm worried there is some serious impending fault that could happen anytime to my car and that'll destroy my resale value.

I thought I would share some critical info for those who have DCT and experience jerkiness at slow speeds or constant trans oil pan leaks.

Since having my entire gearbox replaced (CPO) a few days ago, I have noticed that the jerkiness at crawl speeds is gone entirely. This could be related to a newer build date, software, new clutches or all of the above.

Steve Lenz at SJL Custom Auto in Barrie is a true legend with all types of DCT gearboxes. He can rebuild every component of your transmission; clutch baskets, seals, and properly re-learn everything. He may be one of a handful of truly talented specialist out there who knows these DCT gearboxes better than the engineers who built them. He uses SSP components.

If anyone is experiencing jerkiness or oil leaks, he is your guy. Very knowledgeable and very fair priced. Only major downside for most is that his shop is located in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Steve has been known to fly to all parts of the world to resolve and customize DCT transmissions.

I'd hate that. The shifting clunkiness is all part of the automated manual experience...unless you're talking some outrageously extreme delay

Went for a nice spirited 55 mile ride this afternoon. While driving I felt that my car drove differently than usual. I just had my car in for the 4yr/45k mile service. During which they replaced the spark plugs, coil packs, performed some additional service items, and addressed my DCT lag. While addressing the lag they "Deleted DME Adaptations" not sure exactly what this means but the car now feels much slower than usual and takes 1-2 seconds to build boost in all gears. The transmission is much smoother now at launch but lost some of the snap when shifting gears. I'm wondering if during this service they somehow deleted my PPK & Dinan tune from the vehicle. Does the software tune live on the DME? I messaged my SA and am waiting to hear back what he has to say. I may bring the car in either Monday/Tuesday morning to have them check and ensure the tune is still there. Changing out the plugs/coils wouldn't cause this would it? Honestly my car now feels neutered from how it went into the shop, like it's spirit is gone. Any suggestions?

truth is I have an attorney involved now but am still allowing them to work on it. They had it for 12 days and blamed it on a JB4 that was used, I dinan it ?? Attorney said hogwash when they tried saying its resolve as both our technicians drove it and said " it drives like how a 135i drives" go figure even after they have seen the issue when I drive it with supervisor.

I am taking it in again and giving them the options some members had done to "resolve" the dangerous lag etc.

I am not stopping till it gets resolved not taking a NO for an answer.

Any more updates on this?

I'm having difficulty getting anyone at my dealership to do anything. They give me a sheet stating that the vehicle is functioning as expected. I will continue to try to get them to do something.

Another item is that I have a bundle of cabling (possibly power cable) and a fuse box hanging behind the passenger headlight. I think it might be part of a bad installation of a factory high-output cooling fan maybe. Anyone else run into this?

-Sam

PS. Let me know if I need to start another post.

Esteban, thanks for the information. Why does the dealership look at me cross-eyed and try to tell me that someone has previously "modded" the vehicle? Why are they unaware of their own vehicles and what can I do about it?

Good question...

Maybe try posting in the "2013 135is owners discussion and photos thread!" and see if you get any responses.

BMW should definitely know what they did to their own cars.

Doing some more research, the parts and the wiring insinuate a PPK2 installation. I'm going to have the dealership verify this today. I'll let everyone know.

I was really concerned I'd hate it (after having done extensive research before hand) but really it is fine! Maybe you guys set my expectations so hilairously low that I thought it was the best thing ever once I got it?

It is not PERFECT - it behaves similar to how a M/T car would. As in - if you are slowing for the lights and almost at a complete stop but then the lights turn green and you step on the throttle, there will definitely be some hesitation there.

I can also feel the clutch engaging and then again when its fully out when I take off "slowly" from the lights. Just like a M/T car

Are you guys expecting torque converter like behaviour? Basically stand on the pedal and it accelerates gently no matter what? Ain't gonna get that with a clutch based drive train. Has anyone documented this DCT "delay" in a video? Or is these one of those "butt dyno" style things?

Also lastly, I'd like to try some of these "software updates" on my car but can it be rolled back if it goes to shit?
So there is two delays we are discussing here:
1. Hesitation on tip in or take off and/or revs fluctuating with AC on
2. Hesitation/confusion upon re-acceleration, ie vehicle still moving

We all know the official solution for problem #1. Most have reported success, while others have shared their solutions.

I've been trying to resolve problem #2 and after over 6mths of testing and experimenting i wish to propose a solution for you to try. You need to have a working understanding of NCS Expert and have the hardware to do basic coding of your car to try it.

Step 1: Backup your Vehicle Order
Step 2: Modify Vehicle Order by deleting $1CB and writing it to your CAS and FRM
Step 3: Backup car coding, back up coding for your DME (63BMO for N55) and DCT (GWS)
Step 4: Default code DME and DCT. Ie flash them back to stock, letting it reference the new modified Vehicle Order in the process.
Step 5: Pack up, disconnect laptop and lock up the car and let it go to sleep.
Step 6: Go for a drive and report back your observations

How do you guys apply updates and everything to your car? I'm having the AC problem and the DCT delay. I'd like to fix it but BMW Mountain View wants $220 just to "diagnose" my car. Not even considering how much it'd cost to perform the software update. Ridiculous!

Dont ask for diagnosis. Ask them to update the car instead?
