can you tell me if those codes came up and stayed up? or did they go away and come back? I have similar codes...and similar symptoms....$200 seems a lot better to me that throwing $$$$$ at random fixes/repairs

They came and stayed. I'd clear them and they'd come back especially with the JB4 in the car

Should also mention I just went on an 800 mile road trip and had no issues

Just picked up car from body shop, assuming they disconnected the battery as always, initially had 10 faults...cleared them, ended up with 1 that came back. it is:

bmw 2E0F valvetronic system deactivated excessive adjustment error

hoping this is just a DME update to fix? any advice? i dont wanna f around with more $$ in repairs, im about to crash this car into a telephone pole its taken years off my life

Try the DME flash first, by far the cheapest and easiest fix

Having 2E0F code on my 2012, anyone have a link to the TSB mentioned in this thread? I'd like to be properly armed before going to the dealer!

I had details at one point but this is all I could find at the moment

https://www.tsbsearch.com/BMW/SI-B12-36-15

You should be able to talk to your SA and give them the details you have and they can look up the TSB. They can't fudge anything if you have the facts.

CivicDuty - I'm having the same 2E0F code on my 2012, along with a couple other Valvetronic codes that seem to come back intermittently:

2DCE - Valvetronic system: No adjustment possible
2DD0 - Valvetronic system: Control deivation warning threshold exceeded
2E10 - Valvetronic system: deactivated, warning threshold, control deviation exceeded too frequently
2E11 - Valvetronic system: bottom limit position learned

My symptoms include rough idle for ~20 seconds on cold starts (engine would crank normally and rev up to ~1600 rpm, start to settle toward idle, then rev back up again, repeating this process a few times before finally idling normally) and occasionally would even stall on cold starts. Have you experienced anything similar?

Also noticed you're a fellow Ontarian so please do let us know how the dealer visit goes!

@OneWhite35 I haven't had any of those other codes. I did have a code relating to Valvetronic Sluggish Movement but after clearing that it has been replaced with the 2E0F.

I was getting a stumble on cold start at about the 20-30 second mark but that has pretty much gone away. I must say that I was also having some other faults like the radio defaulting back down to 88.9 in the morning and on 2 occasions I had the car on lift symbol with excessive discharge noted. I replaced the battery and those problems went away along with the stumble on cold start albeit it has occurred once since the battery change.

I'm really torn as to whether I should go to the dealer. I actually have an appointment for tomorrow. It's $179 for a diagnostic ugh. Of course, to confuse things further, the car has been running like a champ lately. I don't know if 2E0F is a code that stays active or just an indication of the valvetronic being disabled at some point but returning to operation if it can.

I'm considering canceling my appointment and monitoring for a while longer.

Have you guys had your cars flashed? I would skip the diag and start there, it should be about $200 and should be done anyway.

Additionally you could try cleaning out the VANOS solenoids, it's actually not difficult at all they're right up front and can be cleaned easily.

@Matticus91 I've had the car for about 1.5 years. Don't know if it's been flashed. Never been to the dealer since I've had it.

I suspect it has PPK1, how do I make sure I don't lose that if they flash it? If I take it for the diagnostic wouldn't the reflash be covered by that TSB?

Thanks for you suggestions!!

TSB's don't always mean "free", they just mean the issue is documented. As far as the PPK, a dealer can tell you if the car does in fact have it as well as what changes would remove it.

Matticus91 What did you specifically ask for when you went to the dealer to get the car re-flashed? My car had a full dealer re-flash last summer (when I replaced my fried FRM module under warranty) and also an ECU tune from MHD. I'm thinking re-flashing my ECU with MHD to see if that "resets" it.

CivicDuty In regards to other strange behaviour, there was one instance where my blinker settings defaulted back to one blink instead of three... but I don't think it's related to 2E0F.

CivicDuty are you N54 or N55?

I ask because the N54 PPK's were dealer only, where some N55's can have the PPK done just using the standard set of BMW software we all have...

It's a 2012 N55. Lots of pops and gurgles, pulls strong!

Hey Guys, sorry. I cancelled my appointment as I had a work thing come up. Maybe that happened for a reason.

Anyway, still have the occasional rough idle after about 20 seconds on a cold start. Will keep you posted if something definitive happens.

Interestingly, my issues with cold starts (stalling, rough idle) seem to have went away last weekend. I got an oil change, put in some BMW fuel system cleaner (essentially rebranded Techron), and reset all my adaptations through the MHD app. It's been a week and a half with no issues.

When was your last oil change? What fuel do you use (I use Ontario Esso 93)? Perhaps it may have been some buildup in the fuel lines mixed with the cold weather.

That's interesting for sure. My last oil change was only 2k ago and I change every 10k. I use Shell 91....thought it was supposed to be the best, no ethanol.
