To update the thread: Is there anyone who speaks german here?

The mentioned text of the German press release speaks about:

- additional water cooler
- corresponding air duct to the additional water cooler
- more powerful fan for the (existing) main water cooler

There is no bigger FMIC, bigger water cooler pump or air intake mentioned.

Not true! And anyone that knows me and my driving experience on and off the track would trust me when I say it's hard to justify buying the M3 with the 135i sitting next to it on the showroom floor. You can argue looks all day long but when it comes to price/performance (or even price negated) it's a close call.

BTW, I ended up ordering the 135i after 2 months of deliberating. This was the first time I have ever spent that much time going back and forth between two cars. My last car, E46 M3, was purchased after 10 minutes at the dealership!!

I'm in your shoes now, and no closer to making a decision.

Weren't you concerned about the stock suspension on the 135? Or are you planning on upgrading?

I'll be watching this one with interest. First of all, I am curious where they would be putting the water cooler. In front of the left hand side wheel well perhaps? If so, I'll be interested to see what this new air duct look like and how it differs from the one on the right hand side. Also, I wonder why they haven't just gone for a bigger radiator and add a secondary oil cooler instead? And why no additional oil cooling? We all know how hot both the water and oil runs on the track in this car.

A M3V8 420 bhp is always(!) faster - through gears and on the track - then a 135i 306/320bhp. When it comes f.i. on performance on the track, those 135i's are absolutely slower than a M3V8. The V8 has way more power and is much better handling than the hopelessly understearing 135i's. lol. This is such an old story, and has been tested soooo many times (boring).

But, in dealy life a 135i 306/320bhp is as fast (or sometimes even faster! in flexibility) as a M3V8 420bhp. Yes, 135i is value for money, absolutely!

have fun!

I'm sure you could- I am also pretty sure that since the tune will be in the personalization section of the BMW software machines that an autologic unit will have it and somebody like EAS could flash just the tune for us for a reasonable price and then we could source the other parts reasonably too from our 1addicts-friendly dealers on here

I think this upgrade is mainly to mitigate the much hotter-running cylinders #5 & 6. And I am still not sure there will be an additional water radiator - my best guess is an upgraded water pump and radiator fan.

Suspension and wheels/tires will be the first upgrade!!

Back to the topic, I wonder why upgrade the water cooler and not the oil cooler?!?!?!?!

Hmmm. I am just on the verge of getting Dinan Stage 2 and the Dinan oil cooler, so based on this I might want to look at adding just the additional radiator.

But it is still way too early to tell what exactly will come in the kit for the US, and how to get the individual parts.

As always, stay tuned.

Have Fun,
Rick

and the worst thing about it being a bmw in-house kit is that they dont need one of us to test it for free on our car!!!!

+1. Only aftermarket one I've seen so far is about $2k, but if BMW offers one, I'm sure it'll cost about the same...

I guess i'll wait to see the price and then see how much Dan will undercut it. And 26 HP would make a bit of a difference, but BMW could definently do more. I mean, the N54 is a Twin Turbo variant of the N52, but why is there only a 70 HP gain from the turbos? There is a great potential in the N54 for much more thrust that BMW will not use. it is quite sad.

Actually, it's a derivative of the M54 engine (from the E46 cars). It doesn't use the magnesium/alu block from the N52, but rather the older one (for strength issues).

BMW built it like this to have an extremely linear feel without turbo lag, like a bigger NA engine. It does feel, eerily so, like a small block V8. (Well, stock it does).

Anything more and the linear feel dissappears - just drive any piggy equipped car and you'll see.
