#83 AW here. Too bad I wasn't a little quicker; it could have been E82 #82....and up to 11,000 happy as hell miles!

We know the first US Production VIN is accurate and we know the last US Production VIN is accurate. Metak got a list of all the Canadian VINS and plugged them in. Once he did that and I added the counter, the numbers added up and matched what we were told by BMW (740 US and 220 Canada).

Honestly, I didn't expect this to work, but to my surprise it did. I did see a post about someone claiming that one of the US-PRESS cars was actually a customer car, but in the end, it would just be swapping around one of the first 10 US cars and wouldn't affect anyone's number past that.

At this point I am pretty confident that this is correct and Metak deserves all the credit. All I did was plug in a simple formula in the spreadsheet.
Until the repeating production numbers are fixed how can it be accurate? For example, 7 different VINs have the same production number of 162.

If you will notice, the only numbers that repeat are when the car is for the other market.

IOW, If US production number 162 is followed by 6 Canadian cars, then the US column will repeat 162 7 times while the Canadian Production number increments.

That's why I said, find your VIN, look in the appropriate column (US or Canada) and it will be accurate.

OK, I fixed it so its not so confusing anymore. I figured out the formula to leave the cells blank rather than repeat for the cells where the car was produced for the opposite country.

I think it will show up as #3 on your list, thus increasing all others above that number to increase by one.

So now I'm #5

I responded in the other thread. If that were true, then BMW lied about 740 cars. My guess is that another car was classified wrong early on (as in the first 20 cars) so I am guessing everyone above 20 is safe. Just a guess though.

Yeah I wish we could get more cooperation from BMW. Hell, French owners know exactly which # in the production line they are.

So that car is also listed as a Press car. I wonder what gives there...

Proven: BMW is not perfect.
There goes another fantasy ...

I can guarantee it wasn't previously used. The VIN/Order Sheet was forwarded to me on 3/2/11: Status 150 - Production Started. Others followed as status changed. I was there for the birth at transport unload. (Not a bad analogy, come to think of it. They don't look too inviting in their shipping fitment. The interior, especially.)

Since all the VIN#'s are filled in, if you count back from the last one for both US/CAN, the production # sequence will be correct for like 99% of the people (assuming the 740/220 totals BMW has released are 100%correct). Like Tk says, it get's a little fuzzy in the first few cars produced.

I updated a copy of the spreadsheet and shared. Metak, if you want to incorporate this into the registry, then please feel free.

Here is the link to the UNOFFCIAL BMW Registry with Production Numbers.

Just find your vin and look in the appropriate column to find your number. At the end, it all adds up to 740 and 220 so Metak did a meticulous job with the spreadsheet.

Winner is the guy/girl who has the same production number as on his/hers 1///M Concept sketch. And he/she wins a turkey dinner!

PS: Now that would be cool, people swapping their sketches to match their X out of 740 figure
