BMW 128i - Stock exhaust?
Hi everyone,
I drive a BMW 128i and am not sure if the car has an upgraded exhaust or not. It sounds pretty loud already. Is there any way to find that out? Thanks! |

Despite what most on this forum think, our cars sound pretty sweet from the factory compared to other cars in our class.

Yes, the 1-series exhaust is much more pronounced then say, the 3-series. Whenever my car is at the dealer and they pull it up to the door, I can always hear it coming. Not so with the 3-series loaner cars they have.

If its a BMW Performance exhaust there will not be a Vacuum solenoid attached to the left side ( drivers side) exhast tip..
Just look underneath .. and yes they are some what pronounced stock from the factory.

that looks like the stock exhaust to me with the thick rounded tip ends. The stock exhaust isn't bad. but the n52 deserves some kind of performance exhaust imho

Pe exhaust
Your right th factory exhaust was great compared to other vehicles but did not do it for me. The sound difference is certainly noticeable, that looks stock.

I measured my stock 128i exhaust both before and after the golf tee mod. It is significantly louder after startup when cold. It quiets down when warmed up. I wish it stayed about like it is cold. Golf tee made it even louder cold and didn't do much hot.
You could have the golf tee mod. If you do not know what it is, try a search. Jim

They could have done the golf tee mod. It does make it rumble a bit louder.

Definitely stock. As mentioned, you might have the golf tee mod. What this does is force the secondary exit pipe open, and it has less baffling. Normally, the exhaust only uses one exit (at lower rpms) In spite of that, it sounds ok when you rev it past 4000 rpm. But the BMW Performance exhaust sounds great at all rpms! It has been the single mod that brings the most grins both to myself, friends and nephews.
