(n55) will our 135i's ever be as loud as jdm cars?

so i've always asked myself would our n55 135i's ever have the IDLE volume close to evo's, supra's, or skylines. When ever i roll up to a meet i always realised our cars are SUPER quiet even with a PE exhaust. Or even at the carpark theres no just no 'presence'.

is it 1) our split 2.5" mid sections? 2) just the way our engines run?

i'd like to hear your thoughts. I have considered a 3.5" full system and kittyless downpipes but still think it wont be enough but i've only seen videos of the one BMR online so can't really compare in person.

one thing for sure is we take home gold medal for cold starts :P only wish i can keep that cold start sound all the way.

happy driving!!

Go with a cat-less DP and Berk Race...that'll surely give some "presence". I'm running a 3.5" VRSF cat-less DP and golf-tee'd OE exhaust...which sounds great for what it is, but just a little raspy for my tastes. I'm probably going to be picking up a Berk Street exhaust (since its my wife's daily driver) to give it a better tone. If it was a weekend toy, I'd go with the Race (muffler delete) version.

Go 3.5 or 4" all the way back and your problem is solved

I always thought the tiny turbo kills a lot of the sound and being a twin scroll doesn't help either.
E82 125i has an almost too loud idle in comparison for a stock car lol.

I think my car is loud enough, hopefully with the ppk it adds the finishing touch I crave.
I'm running a VRSF catless downpipe with a Riss Racing exhaust, without the muffler because I have a quad exit setup.

Unless you really open up the exhaust, it will be quiet. Remember, you have a turbo in the line, which effectively acts as a muffler.

If you want that level of obnoxious idle noise just get a straight through pipe, no mufflers no cats.

Engines is engines, cars is cars.

JDM cars are no different in that respect its just most of the aftermarket jap cannons available have no mufflers or very little in the way of silencing.

The fewer restrictions and silencers, the more it sounds like a broken vacuum cleaner. It takes away the signature low tone

I'll be making a video with my new ppk set up. I have a feeling you'll like it.

These guys really don't like being loud. Goodness well I'll be ordering my bmr exhaust here shortly to join with a vrsf catless downpipe here shortly! I don't daily my car though which is why I opted to go loud. I can't wait!

I've tried everything on my N54 (PE, Magnaflow, deleting the mid cats) and finally got the exhaust tone I wanted with the VRSF big downpipes. Before the DP's I had a nice growling at idling but as soon as I stepped on the throttle the sound would die out.

The N55 is louder than the N54 (less restricted midpipe) so I'd advise going catless downpipes first and choosing the right muffler for you after that.

I'm running VRSF 3" DP's, Magnaflow catback and Cobb Stage 2 Aggressive tune.
A friend of mine is running a custom tune with a richer A/F ratio and doesn't stop injecting fuel on gear changes, so his exhaust does a lot of pops and crackles.
